Dustin Brown cashed in early, Jonathan Quick preserved it.

In their second game in less than 24 hours, the Kings notched their second victory in as many nights, stoning the Calgary Flames with a 2-0 shutout win Thursday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Quick, who returned to the Kings’ crease tonight, was downright stellar.

It was the Kings’ first win against the Flames this season, after Calgary stunned the Kings twice at STAPLES Center earlier in the season with two victories coming from goals in the final seconds of play.

Dustin Brown got the Kings on the board early, as he hounded on a Kris Russel turnover to find himself alone with Calgary netminder Joni Ortio, beating the Flames’ goaltender low to the right side for his 11th goal of the season to give the Kings a 1-0 lead just 3:00 into the contest.

Brown exposed Calgary’s goaltender, who was making his first-career NHL start, by finding the back of the net on the Kings’ second shot of the evening.

The second period saw the Flames dictate play, as they outshot the Kings 15-6, and were granted three power play opportunities, which included a double-minor infraction against Jordan Nolan.

Unlike Wednesday night in Colorado, where the Kings surrendered three power play goals, they stood their ground on the penalty kill, keeping Calgary’s man-advantage unit scoreless on their four power play attempts tonight.

The Kings would rebound in the third period, flipping the switch on the game’s momentum, outshooting Calgary 11-2, and adding an insurance marker early in the final frame.

Dustin Brown, who scored the first goal of the night for the Kings, set up the second goal of the evening with a pass to Dwight King from behind Calgary’s net. King, who failed to send home his first attempt, eventually stuffed the puck past Joni Ortio for his 12th goal of the season to give the Kings a 2-0 lead with 16:30 left to play.

It was King’s first goal in 10 games, his second in the previous 25.

Brown, with a goal and assist tonight, now has three points in the Kings’ previous two games. Brown hadn’t recorded a single point in the Kings’ 12 games prior to the Olympic break. Brown now has three points in his last two games; he totaled three in his 17 games prior to the Olympic break.

Jonathan Quick returned to the Kings crease tonight after Martin Jones got the call Wednesday in Colorado. Quick was outstanding in his first NHL start since February 6, nixing all 25 of Calgary’s shots, earning his fourth shutout of the campaign.

Kings goaltenders (Scrivens 3, Jones 3, Quick 4) have now combined for 10 shutouts this season, which is one shy of the single-season franchise mark of 11, which was set during the 2011-2012 season.

With three straight wins, and a 33-22-6 record, which is good for 72 points, the Kings sit at sixth-place in the Western Conference standings.

The Kings are now en route back to Los Angeles, and are slated to return to STAPLES Center Saturday afternoon, as the Carolina Hurricanes stop in for their only visit of the season for a matinee 1:00 PT puck-drop.
