After snapping their five-game losing streak Monday night with a win in San Jose, the Kings failed to maintain their fight for rejuvenation tonight in Glendale, Arizona.

The Kings, falling 3-0 to the Coyotes, are now 1-4-2 in their last seven regular season visits to Jobing.com Arena.

There wasn’t much positive to take from the Kings’ efforts tonight, as they were unable grasp onto any firm control, pace, or camaraderie in tonight’s shutout loss to Phoenix’s 25th-ranked defense.

Jonathan Quick was outstanding early on, shutting down the Coyotes and their myriad of scoring chances, holding Phoenix scoreless as long as he could.

Then, Oliver Ekman-Larsson struck first for Phoenix with 4:03 remaining in the first period, wristing home the Coyotes’ first goal of the night from the blue-line past Jonathan Quick after the Kings faltered to clear their zone.

After Phoenix was granted a highly questionable power play early in the second period after Jordan Nolan laid a solid hit on Kyle Chipchura, Oliver Ekman-Larsson struck again, this time on the man-advantage, for his second goal of the night, putting Phoenix up 2-0 with 16:44 left in the second period.

Antoine Vermette all but solidified the two points for the Coyotes with his third period goal, sneaking a puck under Jonathan Quick with 11:13 left to play in regulation.

Vermette, who’s been on an offensive tear for Phoenix, tallied his eighth point (6G, 2A) in his last five games for the Coyotes to top off the night’s scoring.

The Kings, who have now been shutout twice in four games, received no production from their power play unit once again.

They’ve failed to score on their last 18 man-advantage opportunities, are on a 3-38 skid, and are 5-59 on the power play through the month of January.

Now with a 30-19-6 record, which is good for 66 points, the Kings continue to sit at sixth-place in the Western Conference.

The Kings haven’t skated at STAPLES Center since January 13 due to the Grammy Awards Ceremony, playing eight straight games outside home confines, if you don’t count Dodger Stadium. In their time away from STAPLES Center ice, the Kings went 2-5-1, snagging just five of the possible 16 points available in the standings through that span.

The Kings will be back home Thursday night to kick off a four-game home stand, but it won’t be easy. The Pittsburgh Penguins, who are atop the Eastern Conference standings, and among the NHL’s elite, come to town for their first visit since November 5, 2011.
