OTTAWA, ON – You’ve got to be sharp early.

No time was wasted this afternoon in regards to the Kings getting their offense churning en route to their sixth consecutive win, downing the Ottawa Senators 5-2 today at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Dwight King buried the first shot of the game for the Kings, beating Ottawa’s Craig Anderson just :21 seconds into the contest for his eighth goal of the season, giving the Kings an early 1-0 lead.

That only got the ball rolling.

Less than four minutes later, Jeff Carter followed suit, giving the Kings a 2-0 lead 4:18 into the game with his ninth goal of the campaign.

The Kings’ two early goals came on their first four shots of the game, forcing Senators coach Paul McLaren to pull starting goaltender Craig Anderson before he was able to see five minutes of action.

Anze Kopitar potted the Kings’ third goal of the first period and his 10th goal of the season, beating Robin Lehner with 7:04 remaining in the first frame.

The Kings held the Senators scoreless in the first period, and have now held opponents scoreless in the first period in their last 18 games.

Ottawa cut the Kings lead to one with a Joe Corvo goal in the second period, and an Erik Karlsson tally early in the third period.

The Kings were able to recover and fight through Ottawa’s comeback efforts, as Jarret Stoll gave the Kings a two-goal lead with his fourth goal of the season with just 6:42 remaining in the game. Stoll pounced on a rebound after Drew Doughty went end-to-end on a marvelous offensive zone rush.

Anze Kopitar sealed the deal with 3:18 remaining, giving the Kings a 5-2 lead on the power play, sending home a beautiful pass from Dwight King.

Martin Jones was spectacular once again; making 37 saves on 39 Senators shots. Jones is now 5-0-0 with a .967SV% and a 0.99GAA in his five consecutive starts.

Four different players scored for the Kings, and seven players recorded at least one point. Dwight King had one of his best performances of the season, recording three points (1G, 2A) in today’s win.

Slava Voynov, with an assist today, now has three points (3A) in his last three games. Jarret Stoll has six points (2G, 4A) in his last six games.

The Kings now hold a 22-7-4 record, good for 48 points, and sit at third-place in the Western Conference.

The club is now on it’s way back to the United States, and will face-off with the NHL’s best Chicago Blackhawks Sunday afternoon at 4:00PM
