LOS ANGELES, CA – The Kings came home rolling on all cylinders.

In their return to STAPLES Center after an outstanding four games on the road, the Kings were solid on all ends, burying the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-2 tonight in Downtown Los Angeles. The Kings continued their solid play that sees them riding a seven-game point streak.

This time around, however, the offense carried the torch.

Five different players recorded a goal and nine players recorded a point for the Kings as they hounded Tampa Bay’s Ben Bishop early and often. The energy in the building tonight escalated quickly with the Kings scoring two first period goals in a 1:51 minute span.

Anze Kopitar opened the floodgates with 5:02 remaining in the first period, rocketing home a gorgeous snap shot to beat Bishop to the top right corner. Less than two minutes later, Matt Frattin tallied his second goal of the season and the second goal of the game for the Kings, redirecting a Slava Voynov shot from the point.

They continued to signal the red light in the second period, as Justin Williams – with help from a lucky bounce, put the Kings up 3-0 less than three minutes into the second period. Dwight King would score next, recording his second SHG of the season by deflecting a Linden Vey shot past Ben Bishop.

After the Lightning made some noise, ending Ben Scrivens’ shutout streak, Dustin Brown finally got off the scoring schneid.

The Captain, who hadn’t scored a goal in his previous six games, and with only one in his last 17 contests, buried the Kings’ fifth and final goal tonight as Matt Frattin found Brown all alone after the Lightning botched a breakout attempt. This one came surprisingly easy for Brown, who couldn’t seem to find any luck the past couple of weeks.

Ben Scrivens delivered a solid performance in the crease once again; making 19 saves on 21 Tampa Bay shots. Scrivens is now 4-0-0 with a 1.00 GAA, .963 SV% and two shutouts since taking over for Jonathan Quick.

With Valtteri Filppula’s goal on Scrivens with 3:43 remaining in the second period, his shutout streak ended at the 191.19 mark – maintaining Jonathan Quick’s streak of 202:11 seconds as the franchise record.

The Kings continue to be stingy on the penalty kill, but allowed their first man-advantage goal tonight since November 14th. They’ve killed 14 of 15 in that span, and 21 of 23 since November 7th.

Through 22 games this year, the Kings have a 15-6-1 record (33 points), which is tied for the second-best start in club history. The Kings also started 15-6-1 in 2005-2006, but started 16-5-1 in 1990-1991.

The Kings continue their success at home and overall. They’ve now won four straight contests at STAPLES Center, and have points in their last seven games.

Anze Kopitar has 10 points (5G, 5A) in his last nine games, Drew Doughty has 11 points (3G, 8A) in his last 14 games, and Justin Williams has six points (3G, 3A) in his last six games.

Martin St. Louis, who played in his 1,000-career NHL game tonight, recorded an assist on Valtteri Filppula’s goal. St. Louis was given a solid standing ovation from the crowd tonight at STAPLES Center during the first stoppage of play.
