Ducks 3, Kings 1
Los Angeles Kings 1, Anaheim Ducks 3

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -Because of the Ducks' smothering defense, goalie Jonas Hiller didn't have to work very hard.

"I've never had that low a shot total against, so definitely we played pretty well defensively," Hiller said Tuesday night after facing only 18 shots in Anaheim's 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

"They didn't have many good scoring chances at all. The only thing they had was pretty much their power play, which they played quite well. But we found a way to defend it and I'm happy about the two points."

The Ducks have beaten the Kings three straight, with Los Angeles scoring a grand total of one goal.

"Against L.A., you have to play with a lot of patience because they just wait until you make a mistake and lose the puck," Hiller said. "I don't think they had a lot of offensive zone time tonight, so we played pretty well."

Samuel Pahlsson and Bobby Ryan scored power-play goals, and Rob Niedermayer added an empty-net goal for Anaheim. Kyle Quincey had the Kings' goal, also on a power play.

Pahlsson snapped a tie with 10:15 to play, redirecting a centering pass from Scott Niedermayer for his fourth goal.

"I'm usually not out there a lot on the power play, but I try to help out when I get my chance out there," Pahlsson said after his first power-play goal since the 2003-04 season. "We got a couple of chances and it was fun, but it's going to be tough (to stay on the power play unit) when we get some guys back."

Ryan scored in the first period, and Quincey answered for Los Angeles in the second.

Hiller, Jean-Sebastien Giguere's backup, improved his record against Los Angeles to 4-0-0. He was coming off a 2-0 victory over Phoenix two days earlier.

Erik Ersberg, getting the start in goal for Los Angeles because Jonathan Quick has a throat infection, faced 25 shots.

"Neither team had anything going on the offensive side," Kings coach Terry Murray said. "There were not a lot of pucks put to the net. Both teams came out with a checking mind-set and did a good job against the top lines.

"We just couldn't get (shots) through. They did a good job of shutting us down."

Chris Pronger earned assists on Anaheim's first two goals, which came with Los Angeles defenseman Drew Doughty in the penalty box.

In the third period, the rookie was sent off for delay of game and Pahlsson scored 18 seconds into the power play. The Ducks had scored their first goal 7 seconds into a power play.

Scott Niedermayer chipped in with a pair of assists for Anaheim, including one on his brother Rob's goal in the closing seconds.

After Anaheim went ahead late in the opening period, Quincey responded early in the second when the Kings had a two-man advantage. With Rob Niedermayer off for hooking and Pahlsson off for tripping, Los Angeles had a five-on-three for 1:38.

Quincey's 40-foot slap shot at 1:14 beat Hiller to the glove side with 15 seconds remaining on the two-man advantage.

Ryan, a rookie who has 12 points in the last nine games, opened the scoring at 17:32 in, with Ryan Getzlaf setting up the goal. Just 7 seconds after Doughty was sent off for cross checking, Pronger passed to Getzlaf in the right circle, Getzlaf slid the puck to Ryan in the slot and Ryan one-timed it past Ersberg.

Notes: Quincey's goal ended the Kings' 143:06 scoring drought against the Ducks, going back to 18:48 of the third period of Los Angeles' 6-3 win on Oct. 14. ... Hiller, who has a 0.65 goals-against average in his five appearances against the Kings, made 29 saves in Anaheim's 2-0 win on Nov. 16. ... The Ducks have won five straight against Los Angeles in Anaheim and are 9-2-1 in the past 12 games in their building.
