7 Things To Watch For On Fox Sports West
Los Angeles Kings vs. New York Islanders

KINGS (11-6-1) at ISLANDERS (7-9-3)

4:00PM PT, TV: FOX SPORTS WEST; RADIO: AM 1150

COMPOSURE, BABY: The Kings must keep theirs. Coming off of an unsettling loss to the lowly Buffalo Sabres Tuesday night, while also losing Jonathan Quick to a lower body injury, the mental aspect of the game for this roster must be sharper than ever. If they find the time to feel sorry for themselves, they’ll only fall behind. They need to have their heads clear and focused tonight in Long Island.

DO IT LIKE QUICK: Injured goaltender Jonathan Quick will be watching from home, just like you. Quick has traveled back to L.A. for further examination on the injury he suffered Tuesday night. Martin Jones has been called up from the Manchester Monarchs for momentary support. Ben Scrivens will be in the crease for the Kings at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum tonight, making his third start of the season.

YOUNG BLOOD: The youth movement is at full tempo. In addition to goaltender Martin Jones’ call-up, forward Tanner Pearson has also been given the call to join the Kings in New York on the current road trip. With Matt Greene and Kyle Clifford officially placed on the IR Wednesday, the Kings need all of the fresh, healthy bodies they can get. The additions of Tyler Toffoli and Linden Vey have worked out quite well for the Kings thus far; can Jones and Pearson help keep the Kings afloat? CLICK HERE to read an interview with Pearson.

CREASE CORRAL: The Islanders, like the Kings, are having issues in their goaltending department. Veteran goalie Evgeni Nabokov has been a disappointment for the Islanders this season, forcing New York to lean on 23 year-old Kevin Poulin by giving him the nod in the Islanders’ previous two contests. Whoever is in net tonight for the Islanders, the Kings must find a way to find the twine in a more successful fashion than they did in Buffalo Tuesday night with their 45 shots.

GOING FOR A STOLL: Out of the Kings’ numerous players sidelined with an injury, one of those players has a possibility to make a return tonight. Jarret Stoll suffered an undisclosed lower body injury on November 2nd against the Nashville Predators, but has traveled with the team with the hopes of an imminent return to the lineup. The Kings would embrace the return of their veteran centerman during such trying times. Stoll has four points (2G, 2A) in 15 games this season, and is a staple on the club’s power play and penalty kill units.

SUBSTITUTE   TEACHER   PROFESSOR: This just isn’t another start for Ben Scrivens in a Kings uniform. This is a start for Scrivens as the number-one guy. There is no Jonathan Quick standing by, this is purely Scrivens’ game – and quite possibly the first of a few, or many to come consecutively in the near future. Scrivens is 1-1-0 in his two starts this season.

ANZE’S ISLAND: The Kings are 2-2-1 against the New York Islanders dating back to the 2009-2010 campaign, and forward Anze Kopitar has four points (3G, 1A) in those last five meetings. The Kings dearly need some veteran, proven support to mix with their influx of young prospects tonight. Can Kopitar chip in and continue his offensive success against the Islanders?
