6 Things To Watch For Tonight On Fox Sports West
Edmonton Oilers vs. Los Angeles Kings

OILERS (3-8-1) at KINGS (7-4-0)

BURNING OIL: Dates with Edmonton the past few years have brought upon positive results for the Kings, and dominantly so. The Kings are an outstanding 11-1-4 against the Oilers in their last 16 meetings.

THE PROFESSOR: Don’t be shocked to see backup goaltender Ben Scrivens in the crease tonight for the Kings. Darryl Sutter is going to want Jonathan Quick ready for back-to-backs with Phoenix and San Jose on Tuesday and Wednesday. Scrivens has made three appearances in net this season, only one of them a full 60-minute start. Scrivens posted a shutout in that one start against the Florida Panthers on October 13th.

FORUM BLUE AND GOLD: The Kings will be donning their vintage purple (Forum Blue) and gold uniforms for tonight’s contest against the Edmonton Oilers at STAPLES Center. The Kings are honoring old-time enforcer Jay Wells, and will be doing the same later this season for Larry Murphy and Jim Fox for the 2013-2014 “Legends Night” series.

HEY, SMYTTY: Former King and NHL veteran Ryan Smyth returns to STAPLES Center with a trodden, injured, old, and pretty awful Edmonton Oilers club. It’s a sad, but comfortable ending to a wonderful career for Smyth, who demanded a trade out of Los Angeles the year before the Kings won the Stanley Cup. His hair is still some of the best in hockey, and if you want a puck, he gives away three of them at the end of pre-game warm ups….Every…Single….Game.

POINTS BABY: And they’ve been racking ‘em up lately. The Kings are 6-2-0 in their previous eight contests heading into tonight. They’ve snagged 12 of the possible 16 points available in that spread. They can surely use two more tonight against Edmonton. Early success goes a long way.

LABARBERA SHOP: Another former King is in town tonight. Sure, it would be cool to see Jason LaBarbera play in Los Angeles again, but just because he’s still bad and it’s not for the Kings. LaBarbera surrendered five goals to the Phoenix Coyotes last night and is riding on a brutal 3.21 GAA and .871 SV%. Devan Dubnyk will probably get the call in the crease for Edmonton though. Even better, because Dubnyk is rocking a horrendous 2-5-1 record, a 4.01 GAA and a .878 SV%.

Keep those floodgates open, yeah?
