Surging Kings take act to Broadway
Los Angeles Kings vs. New York Rangers
KINGS (32-22-3) at RANGERS (30-24-4)

TV: NHL Network (U.S.), Fox Sports-West, MSG.

Last 10: Los Angeles 8-0-2; New York 3-6-1.

Season Series: This is the lone meeting between the teams. They last faced each other on Feb. 2, 2010, when the Kings edged the Rangers 2-1 at the Staples Center.

Big Story: Los Angeles is playing its best hockey in three decades, as it extended its point streak to 10 games (8-0-2) Wednesday night with a 4-3 shootout victory at Columbus.

The Kings, who also have points in eight straight road games (6-0-2), can match a franchise record on Thursday against the Blueshirts. Los Angeles moved into playoff position with Wednesday's win.

"It's a real tight conference right now and we have to battle every night," goalie Jonathan Quick said.

Team Scope:

Kings: The shootout has been awfully kind to Los Angeles this season, as it improved to 7-1 in the breakaway competition with Wednesday's victory. Jarret Stoll scored the only goal in the shootout, as Quick denied all three shots he faced.

Quick will reportedly get the night off Thursday, as Murray will give Jonathan Bernier the start.

"It was back and forth and we are going to need to be more focused as we move through the rest of this trip," Murray said.

Rangers: New York ended a six-game winless streak (0-5-1) Sunday afternoon when it earned a 5-3 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Madison Square Garden. Ryan Callahan had three points for the Rangers, who enter Thursday's action in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, but just four points ahead of ninth-place Buffalo.

"The games we were losing, I think special teams were a big reason why we were losing them," Callahan said. "This is the NHL now, where if you win the special teams battle, you're going to win the game more often than not. And I thought we did that (Sunday)."

Who's Hot: Quick is 7-0-1 in his last eight starts, while defenseman Drew Doughty has goals in back-to-back games. … Rangers center Brian Boyle, who never scored more than four goals in a season prior to 2010-11, is tied for the team lead with 19 tallies.

Injury Report: Kings left wing Scott Parse (hip) is out, while Marco Sturm (knee) is day-to-day. … New York will be without Derek Boogaard (concussion), Chris Drury (knee), Ruslan Fedotenko (shoulder) and Alex Frolov (knee). Wojtek Wolski (rib) is questionable.

Stat Pack: The Rangers were 3-for-31 on the power play in their previous eight games before getting two goals from Callahan and another from Artem Anisimov against the Pens.

Puck Drop: "It was definitely a sigh of relief to stop the bleeding and get that win under our belt. At the same time, we've got to get another win now and start building them together. I don't think this is over until we start winning two or three in a row." -- Rangers forward Ryan Callahan
