KINGS CARE FOUNDATION

Formed in 1996, Kings Care Foundation is the non-profit children's charity of the Los Angeles Kings. Dedicated to providing children in the Greater Los Angeles area with educational and recreational opportunities, Kings Care Foundation has provided $3.5 million in in-kind and monetary support for the local community including a $250,000 donation to develop a state-of-the-art Los Angeles Children's Museum at Hansen Dam and a pledge of $250,000 to the Neil Bogart Memorial Fund, a non-profit organization that funds research at Children's Hospital Los Angeles to find a cure for pediatric cancer, leukemia and AIDS.

Kings Care Foundation Overview

Other initiatives include:
Kids Ice Knights: Kids Ice Knights is the Foundation’s signature community ticket program. Generous sponsors purchase ticket packages which are donated back to non-profits throughout the greater Los Angeles area. Each year, over 10,000 youth and their chaperons are given the opportunity to visit the STAPLES Center and watch the Kings.

Children’s Cancer Research Fund (CCRF): The Kings Care Foundation was proud to host a special silent auction benefiting CCRF. Kings players and broadcasters decorated pet t-shirts which were auctioned off with all proceeds given to CCRF’s mission to fight childhood cancer.

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA): The Kings Care Foundation continued its support of spcaLA this season by holding a special silent auction featuring pet bowls autographed and decorated by the Los Angeles Kings and their wives. Fans had the chance to bid on everything from Derek Armstrong’s “Army Bowl” to Anze Kopitar’s “Feast for a King” bowl. Proceeds from the silent auction helped support spcaLA’s mission to prevent cruelty to animals through Education, Law Enforcement, Intervention and Advocacy.

Head to Hollywood (H2H): The 2006-2007 season gave the foundation the opportunity to partner with Head to Hollywood, a charity supported by Carmen Electra that assists survivors or brain tumors and their families. In addition to a special silent auction, Electra and other celebrities were on hand to watch reigning Miss USA Tara Conner and the 2007 Miss USA contestants take shots at goal during intermission to help raise money for H2H.

Wednesday’s Child: Kings Care Foundation continued its partnership with FOX 11 anchor Christine Devine and the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services to tape segments of “Wednesday’s Child,” a weekly segment that features children in need of adoption with hopes of finding them a permanent and loving family

Michael Jund Sports Media Scholarship Award: The Los Angeles Kings lost a special friend on May 31, 1998, when Kings media relations assistant Michael Jund passed away due to a heart condition at the age of 22. In Michael’s honor, each year the Michael Jund Sports Media Scholarship is awarded to a college student with strong technical knowledge of sports, superior media/public relations writing and communication skills, dedication to the job and an ever-present positive attitude.

Toys for Tots: The Kings Care Foundation partnered with the US Marine Corps to support Toys for Tots. During the December 9 game fans were asked to buy raffle tickets for a chance to win a Sony Playstation 3 and support Toy’s for Tots mission to distribute toys to needy children during the holiday season.

The Kings Care Foundation is largely supported through private donors and fundraising efforts, which include the Los Angeles Kings Bud Light Golf Invitational, Kings Camp, Tip-A-King, Game Night Silent Auctions and In-Arena Messages.
