The Los Angeles Kings are proud to be an integral part of the Los Angeles community, both on and off the ice and actively seek opportunities to serve as ambassadors of good will. In addition to hosting special events, donating in-kind items and granting requests for monetary funding, the Los Angeles Kings touch the lives of nearly one million children each year through diverse educational, recreational and social development programs, events and initiatives. The following are just a few examples of the many ways the Los Angeles Kings are giving back to its community:

The Jim Fox/Dave Taylor Golf Tournament: The Dave Taylor Jim Fox Cystic Fibrosis Golf Classic will be held at one of the most exciting courses in the area, Moorpark Country Club on June 15, 2009. The L.A. Kings Royal Readers Program: The L.A. Kings Royal Readers is a program that is to be held at individual schools for the duration of 10 weeks. It is designed to encourage students to read by awarding prizes such as Kings game tickets and promotional items to those who have read the most books. Students will be tested by several different methods, such as illustrating a favorite character or writing a summary, depending on their grade level. Bailey will also be visiting the school weekly to provide encouragement. With this program, the Kings hope to show children that reading is not only an essential part of learning, but it can also be fun and a rewarding experience. Photos

Operation Gratitude CD/DVD Drive: The Los Angeles Kings proudly supported the U.S. military this holiday season by holding a CD and DVD drive to benefit Operation Gratitude. During the month of November fans kindly donated new CD/DVD’s which helped Operation Gratitude fulfill its goal of sending over 50,000 care packages to troops stationed overseas.

Kings Wives Annual Toy/Food Drive: Wives/girlfriends of the Los Angeles Kings along with volunteers were on hand to collect generous donations from fans during the holidays. All goods collected benefited local organizations including the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, The Midnight Mission, Pico Union Housing Corporation, Plaza de la Raza, Central City Action Committee and many more.

Gifts from the Heart Holiday Giving Program: The Los Angeles Kings recognize that many families are in need of additional support during the holiday season. Every year, Kings players, coaches, personnel and their families participate in the Adopt-a-Family Gift Giving Program which proves gifts and groceries to several families who live near STAPLES Center.

Hospital Visits: Players and alumni were on hand this season to give their gift of time and visit with patients of Children's Hospital Los Angeles and their families. Children received Kings merchandise and had the opportunity to get autographs, have their picture taken and take part in an inflatable hockey game with the 2006-2007 Los Angeles Kings. Visits to CHLA are favored by players and are an annual highlight.

School Visits: The Los Angeles Kings are pleased to visit local schools and meet with students. Players are on hand to share their favorite hockey stories, answer questions, take pictures and sign autographs for young fans. To see pictures of our latest school visit click here.

LA Kings Downtown On Ice at Pershing Square: Each year the Kings partner with the Mayor’s office, Council District 9 and the LA City Department of Recreation and Parks to create an outdoor skating rink for everyone to enjoy. This project is Los Angeles’ first outdoor skating rink. We have drawn more than a half million skaters to our miniature version of Rockefeller Center. As the main sponsor of the rink, the Kings not only donate their money, but also their time, teaching free youth and adult hockey clinics to guests at LA Kings Downtown on Ice.

The Kings Chariot: The chariot continues to bring hockey to schools, youth centers and community festivals throughout Los Angeles. Free of charge, the Chariot is run by skilled hockey instructors and is equipped with an inflatable slap-shot booth and Kings jersey, a portable hockey rink and full sets of hockey gear to transform any site into hockey extravaganza. Kings Street Knights: A grassroots hockey program that can be organized at youth-based educational or recreational centers in Greater Los Angeles. By donating full sets of street hockey equipment and expert instruction, this program gives community centers an opportunity to operate their own youth hockey program. New sites can be developed at any time and the program can be adapted to include youth who are audibly, visually, developmentally or physically challenged. Charitable Donations: Throughout the year, the Los Angeles Kings donate approximately a half million dollars in in-kind and monetary donations to charitable organizations. Donations range from funding, to tickets, to autographed memorabilia. The Kings look at this as a special opportunity for our team to support non-profit agencies and charitable organizations working to make positive differences in the lives of those in our community.
