Hockey Fest Wrapping Up
• Sept. 2, 2009
Last weekend, as part of their first annual HockeyFest, the Los Angeles Kings brought back some of their alumni to join in the celebration. Indeed, fans got to meet and listen to Kings from days long past. They were delighted to see the famed Triple Crown Line of Marcel Dionne, Charlie Simmer and Dave Taylor reunited in a hockey setting here in Los Angeles for the first time in 25 years.

Hockey Fest 09 - Staying on Target
• Sept. 2, 2009
The final day of Hockey Fest 09 proved that the Los Angeles Kings remain on the path Dean Lombardi set out since he arrived on the scene, which was to strip down the roster and organization and build it back up by getting to the draft table. Since then the Kings have had more picks than I can remember (273?) and have built a franchise full of young potential studs.

Hockey Fest '09 Recap
• Sept. 2, 2009

Hockey fans from all corners of the Greater L.A. area -- and beyond -- headed to L.A. Live this past weekend to take in the inaugural L.A. Kings Hockey Fest 09. The three day event kicked off on Friday night and included a variety of events throughout the weekend featuring both current and past Kings players. With training camp less than two weeks away, fans were eager to get their first looks at the current squad and find out what the team has in store for the upcoming season. The energy amongst the crowd seemed to radiate a certain optimism about the new campaign. A general sense that good things are forthcoming could be sensed amongst the purple-and-black faithful and fans demonstrated it on Friday night during the much anticipated team and alumni introductions. As the weekend progressed, fans were treated to events, activities and speaking engagements that helped generate further excitement.

Hockey Fest Wrapping Up
• Sept. 1, 2009
Final events of the Kings' Hockey Fest and some final thoughts: Much of the talk at the Sunday morning Hockey Operations panel centered on Jonathan Quick and whether he's ready to keep the starting goaltending job, and assistant general manager Ron Hextall was frank in saying that would-be starter Jonathan Bernier, who began the 2007-08 season with the Kings, had pouted after being sent to the minor leagues last season and didn't turn his attitude and play around until the second half. Not once was Erik Ersberg's name mentioned, but Hextall said the Kings have the Swedish goaltender ranked second behind Quick. However, Hextall added that the rankings could change according to what happens at training camp, which begins with physicals on Sept. 12 and on-ice work the next day.

All Telecasts in HD
• Sept. 1, 2009
It's always a pleasure to listen to Kings TV broadcaster Bob Miller tell stories about the team's early days, but his "One-Man Show" at Sunday's Hockey Fest was made even more enjoyable when he let it slip that all of the team's 65 telecasts next season will be available in HD. The Kings had only 10 HD games last season, which was unfortunate because HD probably benefits hockey more than any other sport. The club had planned to make the announcement this week, but Miller made it as he wrapped up his entertaining, hour-plus show.

LA Kings Hockey Fest 09 Looks Like a Hit
• Sept. 1, 2009
Los Angeles area hockey fans got a head start on the beginning of the 2009-10 hockey season this past weekend with the Los Angeles Kings wrapping up their inaugural HockeyFest on Sunday. The event, which was held at the Nokia Theatre at LA Live, began on Friday evening and concluded late Sunday afternoon. The weekend of events featured several well-received panel discussions featuring current Kings players, front office staff and alumni, along with a large tent filled with hockey-related games for kids and adults alike and several exhibits, including all of the National Hockey League’s award trophies, except for the Stanley Cup.

NHL 10 at Hockey Fest
• Sept. 1, 2009
The Cow is back from Los Angeles! I was covering the first 2 days of Hockey Fest 09 and it was a big success. I met new people, got to meet players, and even EA Staff. My main purpose of Hockey Fest 09 was to cover NHL 10 but it became more then that. LA won me over as a King fan and I give them nothing but the best wishes in the upcoming season. The Kings and the Panthers are alike, trying to make the play-offs. In that we already have a lot in common.

Kings Kick off Hockey Fest
• Aug. 30, 2009
With the excitement of the Kings regular season just weeks away, day one of Hockey Fest kicked off at the Nokia Theatre at L.A. Live. ?We thought about doing this two years from now? Luc Robitaille told a small gathering of reporters, ?but the fans seemed really enthusiastic so we went forward with it earlier?. Planned roughly a year in advance, the festivities started off slowly in the spacious Nokia center as M.C. Jay Flats attempted to entertain the crowd of roughly 2,000.

Hockey Fest Opens
• Aug. 30, 2009
The dreaded lull is coming to an end. For hockey fans, the period immediately following the July 1 unrestricted free agent signing spree through the opening of National Hockey League team training camps is usually so slow in terms of news that desperate hockey fans will eat up just about anything that?s published or broadcast, no matter how ridiculous, outlandish or just downright phony it might be. Thankfully, we are now about one week away from the opening of rookie camps across the league, with training camps opening a week later.

Hockey Fest Day Two
• Aug. 29, 2009
Even though the inaugural Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fest '09 is more than half way completed, the event still has some big name events on the docket for Sunday. There are still three panle discussions scheduled for today at the Nokia Theater. At 10AM local time this morning, the first discussion is the 'Kings Hockey Operations' with host Daryl Evans. Featured will be general manager Dean Lombardi, assistant general manager Ron Hextall, and head coach Terry Murray.

Goon Nostalgia at Fan Fest
• Aug. 29, 2009
"Why do they fight? The answer is self-evidentiary, when removed from the mannered world and placed in light and sound: If a Stanley Cup really is worth fighting for, someone has to prove it." - Mark Whicker, OC Register, "Some NHL Players Fight To Keep Their Jobs" Whicker's column today was born out of a panel discussion at the Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fest featuring former Kings brawlers Stu Grimson and Brad Norton(notes) that was just what you'd expect from two battle-scarred ex-pugilists: nostalgic, hilarious and an eloquent discussion on why fighting still matters.

Some NHL Players Have to fight for their jobs
• Aug. 29, 2009
Hockey players fight. Some people wonder why. They make up the annoying subclass that asks you to reconsider things. When "they just do" is no longer adequate, one needs to consult the fighters themselves, and the Kings thoughtfully arranged this Saturday at their Hockeyfest '09.

Predictions for the 2009-10 NHL season have already been made in many hockey outlets, with the Los Angeles Kings often been mentioned as a team that could be poised for a breakthrough following three painful rebuilding seasons. The Los Angeles Kings have announced that they will have a ?three-day interactive festival celebrating the Los Angeles Kings and the game of hockey and will take place beginning Friday evening, Aug. 28 and conclude on Sunday, Aug. 30.? It looks like the Kings are following in the footsteps of the Chicago Blackhawks who were the first NHL team to develop this ?fan fest? concept. This hockey fest will feature coaches, players and prospects from the Los Angeles Kings organization and will have an abundance of Kings merchandise and memorabilia.

This past season the Kings seemed to find themselves on the up swing but faltered towards the end of the season. With this fan fest and young talent in the system the Kings look to make a similar turn-around that the Chicago Blackhawks have made over the last two seasons.

The Kings yesterday announced that their inaugural ``Hockey Fest'' event, which will be held at LA Live in August.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2009/03/hockey-in-the-s.html

There will be hockey in L.A. this summer--or hockey players, at least--after the ice melts at Staples Center.
