IS BEING AN ICE CREW MEMBER A FULL-TIME JOB? WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT I SHOULD EXPECT?

No. Most Ice Crew members attend college and/or have other part-time or full-time jobs. However, being a member of the Ice Crew will require a solid commitment to being available for home games, practices, events and other outside appearances (most of which take place during evenings and weekends). Call time for games is 2.5 hours prior to game time (not all ice crew members work every game). Ice Crew members should plan for 15-25 hours of work per week on average. A full 08-09 game schedule is
available here.

WHAT DOES THE ICE CREW DO?
The Ice Crew is primarily responsible for clearing the snow buildup on the ice surface during set media timeouts at games. Ice Crew members will also assist with on-ice games and activities during intermissions. The team will also represent the LA Kings organization off the ice at various events and appearances throughout the community, such as: charity events, promotional events, etc.

WHAT ARE THE AGE REQUIREMENTS TO AUDITION?
You must be at least 18 years of age by Sept. 8, 2008. Furthermore, you must also be a high school graduate (or equivalent) to be eligible to audition. Applicants must also not have any tattoos that would be visible while in uniform.

ARE THERE ANY HEIGHT OR WEIGHT REQUIREMENTS?
There are no specific limits on height and/or weight to be a member of the ice team.

DO I NEED TO HAVE SKATING EXPERIENCE TO AUDITION?
Since the primary function of the Ice Crew will be to remove snow build-up from the ice surface during games, a comfortable level of skating ability is required. While applicants need not be professionally trained skaters (hockey, figure, etc.), it is highly recommended that applicants can skate comfortably and gracefully, stop effectively and maintain a decent level of agility by Sept. 8, 2008. Please note: Ice Crew members will be required to wear hockey skates. So, those accustomed to wearing figure skates are strongly encouraged to practice adjusting to hockey skates before the audition date.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO AUDITIONS?
You should wear a two-piece outfit consisting of: solid black dance/yoga/jazz style pants and a top/tank-top/sports bra-style top. You will need to pin your audition ID# onto your top, so be sure to consider that when choosing what to wear.

HOW SHOULD I WEAR MY MAKEUP AND HAIR?
Makeup should be glamorous and "stage ready" in shades that complement your natural beauty. Hair should be performance-ready in a current hairstyle that complements your features and doesn’t hide your face (no pony tails).

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO THE AUDITIONS?
Please bring the following: a current Drivers License, state-issued ID card, or valid passport; photo/headshot/comp card (does not need to be professional); current resume; hockey skates (if you do not own skates, loaners will be provided); pen/pencil; completed application/waiver.

CAN I BRING FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO WATCH THE AUDITIONS?
No, auditions will be closed for public viewing. If you plan to carpool to the arena and audition with friends, please have a plan in case one person advances to additional rounds and the other does not. You will not be able to stay inside the arena to wait for a friend.

WHAT IS THE AUDITION PROCESS?
Auditions are a two-part process. On Monday, Sept. 8, there will be a registration period followed by a skating drills session where individual skating ability levels will be assessed. Following that, applicants will participate in short, group interviews in front of a panel of judges. Rounds of cuts can occur at any point during the process at the discretion of the judges. Finalists for the 2008-09 Ice Crew will be notified promptly and will be required to attend an additional, one-on-one, business-style interview at STAPLES Center on Sept. 9 or 10. Those chosen for the 2008-09 team will be contacted by the end of the week with our decisions.

WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE FOR AUDITIONS?
Download and complete your application packet. Pre-register using the online submission form. Practice skating in hockey skates with particular emphasis on stopping and starting, graceful/comfortable form, controlled turns and balance (Ice Crew team members will need to use large snow shovels, buckets, carry props, etc.). Contact your local rink if you think lessons might benefit you. We also recommend applicants have a current fitness/cardio/weight training plan in place to maintain good physical fitness. Furthermore, applicants will want to brush up on their hockey knowledge, with particular emphasis on the rules of the game and the LA Kings team and current news.

WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF THE ONLINE PRELIMINARY AUDITION RSVP?
On the day of auditions, applicants will be assigned ID numbers on a first-come, first-served basis. Those ID numbers will dictate the order in which applicants are assessed during the skating and interview portions of the process (and, therefore, the wait time associated with such). Applicants that RSVP in advance using the online form (and receive an e-mail confirmation), will be assigned a number in the order in which their RSVP was received, which guarantees an earlier registration number than those arriving and registering for the first time on Sept. 8. Preliminary reservations are highly encouraged.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T SUBMIT AN ONLINE PRELIMINARY RSVP?
Not using the online RSVP system will not adversely affect how you are assessed during the auditions. However, waiting to register for the first time on the day of auditions could result in a higher ID number, and, thus a longer wait time for the skating and interview portions. We strongly encourage use of the online RSVP form.

ARE ICE CREW MEMBERS PAID?
Yes. Ice Crew team members are paid an hourly rate for all games, events, and appearances worked.

DOES THE ICE CREW TRAVEL WITH THE TEAM?
No. Ice Crew members only work home games and local events in the Los Angeles area.
