Kings Sign Defenseman Jeff Schultz To A Two-Year Contract

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings – the 2014 Stanley Cup Champions – have signed pending unrestricted free agent defenseman Jeff Schultz to a new two-year contract, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

The 28-year-old Schultz made his Kings debut in the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs, appearing in seven playoffs games (0-0=0, 0 PIM) after he was recalled from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League on April 30.

Schultz played in 67 regular season games with the Monarchs this past season, recording 13 points (2-11=13), 32 penalty minutes and a plus-10 rating. He also appeared in two playoff games with Manchester, recording zero points, two penalty minutes and a plus-2 rating.

The 6-6, 225-pound native of Calgary, Alberta has played in 399 career NHL regular season games (all with Washington), recording 75 points (11-64=75) and 133 penalty minutes. In 36 career NHL postseason games he has one assist and 14 penalty minutes. Schultz was originally selected by Washington in the first round (27th overall) at the 2004 NHL Draft.
