Mama\'s Boys - After The Cup
Hockey Moms Know Best....what was their reaction after the Kings won The Cup?

During the Stanley Cup Final, as they were battling the New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings players Jarret Stoll, Trevor Lewis, and Willie Mitchell granted permission for their mothers to be interviewed, which yielded some very endearing stories about the players’ childhoods, their relationships with their moms, and some special family moments. (The stories were previously posted on LAKings.com.)

While on the ice, immediately after the Kings defeated the Rangers, 3-2 in double overtime of Game 5, the players and their moms shared the following thoughts.

Nadija Mitchell on her emotions:

“I just can’t believe it, especially so late in his career – two! This is unbelievable, just thrilled for him.”

Nadija on the game going into double overtime:

“It was so tense, I couldn’t believe it.”

Nadija’s words to Willie:

“You dreamed this and it became a reality, not once, but twice, I’m just so thrilled for you.”

Willie to his mom:

“You just say you love her and thank her for all the sacrifices that your family made to get you to this point. I think that’s the coolest thing about the Stanley Cup, it brings families together and the smiles on their faces, and everyone being a part of the journey.”

Willie on seeing his family on the ice after the win:

“You want to find them. I think the first time is a little bit more emotional, it’s your first time climbing the hill – it always is (emotional), but a little bit more the first time, that’s for sure.”

Linda Lewis on her emotions:

“It’s crazy. I couldn’t even imagine the first one, let alone two. But they deserve it, they work so hard and I’m so happy.”

Linda on the game going into double overtime:

“I thought I was going to have a heart attack, I was so tense, my heart was pounding out of my chest.”

Linda on Alec Martinez’s game-winning goal:

“It just ended like we knew it would end. I just started screaming and running around and hugging and crying.”

Linda’s words to Trevor:

“I love you son, you are my hero, I love you to death.”

Trevor about his mom:

“She did a lot for me growing up, it’s all paying off. It’s hard to put into words how thankful I am for her. She’s the best.”

Trevor on Martinez’s game-winning goal:

“I went bananas, I almost passed out from yelling so hard. It’s such an amazing feeling and such an amazing group to do it with.”

Trevor on seeing his family on the ice after the win:

“It’s an unbelievable feeling. They all put in a lot for me to be here and I can’t thank them enough.”

Sherri Stoll on her emotions:

“It’s absolutely amazing. There’s no better feeling in the world than winning the Stanley Cup. It’s a dream come true again. He’s worked so hard. This series, they were all so close, so tight, so nail-biting. It’s just the way they did it, they pushed, they knew they would find a way to win and they did.”

Sherri on the game going into overtime:

“Very very nervous, our knees were shaking and it was just totally chaos.”

Sherri’s words to Jarret:

“Be happy – we told him we love him and we’re so proud of him and we’re just so happy.”

Jarret to his mom:

“I love her, I love all the support. Family, parents…they’re why we’re in this situation, why we can play hockey and do what we love to do and what we dream about doing. I’m so happy to have them here and have her here.”

Jarret on seeing his family on the ice after the win:

“You’re so happy, you want to find them and see them. It’s why we play, it’s why they travel and spend money and support hockey and myself and our team, for this reason right here.”
