Game 6 Recap
News notes and quotes following the Kings\' game six victory versus Anaheim

Attendance: 18,519 (114th straight sellout dating back to Dec. 3, 2011)

KINGS HEAD COACH DARRYL SUTTER:

(Re First Goals): “I think the second goal is more important, not the first. If you look at the past two games, that’s what did it, it wasn’t the first one it was the second one.”

(Re PK’s): “There is a lot of intensity and a lot of structure in the playoffs. This series is coming into tonight, I think the penalties were exactly what you want, they are three or less a game, so tonight they called a few more stick fouls which I was surprised by because I don’t think our team does a lot of it.”

(Re: Game 7): “This Game 7 is probably harder than the first. You’re another two weeks into it, so it’s another level of team. You’re going into a building against a team that’s 16 points ahead of us, so you can talk all you want, there is a big underdog going against the number one seed in the Western Conference.”

KINGS GOALTENDER JONATHAN QUICK:

(Re team defense): “They did what they’ve done all year. I’m very fortunate to play with the group we have. We have a couple injuries on the back end. We’ve got guys stepping up, playing big minutes and really well for us.”

(Re poise during elimination games): “We’re a good team. Any team that’s still playing this time of year has got a good team and knows how to win. It’ll be a good game (Game 7) and we’ve got to get our rest and be ready”

KINGS FORWARD ANZE KOPITAR:

(Re game recap): “We got a couple goals and shut it down pretty good. I think we can still play better hockey. We’ve done it before. We know it’s going to get harder obviously. Game 7’s are always exciting but they’re the hardest game. We’re going to have to bring everything on Friday.”

KINGS FORWARD DUSTIN BROWN:

(Re special times): “I think we’re a team that doesn’t need to rely our power-play but it needs to get its momentum. I thought tonight our power-play had that effect on our game. Late in the third we had numerous chances on our power-play.”

(Re containing Getzlaf to no points): “There’s a reason he’s nominated for the Hart Trophy this year. He’s a hard player to defend because of his size and skill. He made great plays tonight but we had some secondary help.”

ANAHEIM HEAD COACH BRUCE BOUDREAU:

(How it should end up, in a Game 7): “It shouldn’t wind up that way, but that’s the way it’s going to.”

(What is it going to take to recover from this loss): “We’re recovered now. We’re ready to play. They beat us, it’s a tough series, a great team we’re playing, but I mean to think that it’s devastating. It’s ludicrous.“

(What it took to get to this point, and what it will take to win): “I think what it’s going to take is someone getting a lucky bounce, and holding on to the lead. Like I said, they’re a very good team, and they know how to play with the lead. We are going to need 20 players, playing the best game you can play on both sides. There can be no passengers in the next game.”

(Home ice advantage): “They wanted to win tonight. You never wait until the seventh game. Look what happened to Boston. You want to win it when you can, and we didn’t get it done. We’ll get better and we’ll get ready, and we’ll play a hell of a game Friday.”

ANAHEIM DEFENSEMAN CAM FOWLER:

(Re game recap): “We knew that they were going to come out with a strong push and it just seems that whoever gets the first goal in this series is able to create a lot of momentum. I thought our guys did a good job at battling, unfortunately we just couldn’t crack them one more time, but we have another opportunity in Game Seven in our own building.”

(Re game recap): “They weren’t doing much differently, I think our execution wasn’t quite where we wanted it to be and I made some mistakes out there, I felt like I rushed a couple shots a few times and it just seemed like we were out of sync. I thought our last couple power plays were good, I had a grade-A scoring chance and [Jonathan] Quick had an unbelievable save so I wish I had that one back, but we’ll figure it out and it’ll be better in Game Seven.”

ANAHEIM FORWARD KYLE PALMIERI:

(Re game recap): “Obviously we didn’t get off to the start we wanted but the second period we played well and we got a lot of chances. Their goalie made some big saves at big times and we just got to get out there and get off to a good start on Friday. They’ve been in this situation before and they know what to do with a lead and it was tough to get in and get opportunities on them but overall, I think it wasn’t a full 60 minute effort from us and we’re going to bring better.”

(Re first to score a goal): “It changes the game and obviously it’s tough to build momentum on the road in a tough building to play, but it’s going to be nice going home and just start with the drop of the puck on Friday. It’ll be huge and hopefully we’ll get off to a good start and get that first goal that’s been so important in the series.”
