Notes And Quotes - Game 2
What did they say in the locker rooms after the Kings won Game 2? That and some notes.

Ryan Getzlaf

On giving up the opening goal in 34 seconds

That’s not the start that we expect of our group, especially us up front. That’s not the way we can start a hockey game. That’s on us. We tried to work and get back at it after that. You can’t sulk on those things. We were able to respond pretty quickly after that.

On the mood of the team

I’m ticked off right now. We’re in playoff time right now. There are no excuses for anything. We have to be better, I have to be better, and I expect our group to respond.

Corey Perry

On not generating traffic in front of the net

You have to battle through that. If you’re going to accept that, you’re not going to have any chances to score. We had a lot of shots, but the quality of second opportunities we didn’t have. He saw a lot of pucks tonight. That’s the frustrating part because we talked about that before the game.

On going into Staples Center down 2-0

It’s a tough building to play in, but we’ve won there before. Hopefully we can go in and play that road game that we want to play. We’ve had success on the road this year and hopefully we can do that.

Head coach Bruce Boudreau

On Jonathan Quick

He was pretty good tonight, but if you don’t get traffic in front of him and you don’t go to the net, you’re not going to score. If he can see everything, he’s going to stop it. There were no second chances. They blocked out. We didn’t get to the front of the net to get the rebounds for the dirty, greasy goals that we got all year. If we continue to play the perimeter, we’re not going to have success against him.

On playing comeback hockey

You’ve got to score the first goal, evidently. When they’re playing a little more desperate, they’re dangerous. But you can see how stifling they can be just getting it out. No matter how hard you’re trying to get it deep in the forecheck, they know how to close the door.

LOS ANGELES KINGS

Dustin Brown

On Quick

We’re lucky to have Jonathan Quick in our goal. He makes big saves for us at key times and allows us to kind of squeak one out at the end of the day.

On being 2-0 in series

At the end of the day, it’s two games. Been through this process enough times over the last four to five years to understand it’s about the next game. They’ve been the best team in our conference all year. It’s going to be a fight.

Jonathan Quick

On win

We’re trying to get ready to win a game in a couple days here. That’s what we’re focused on. They’ve got a great team. We have a lot to prepare for to get ready.

On enjoying win

No. What you would do after this game weather you lost or won isn’t going to be any different. You just are doing everything you can to get ready for the next game and try to win that one.

Darryl Sutter

On winning two on the road

We played really good in this building during the regular season. It was the same for us tonight. We needed four lines and six defensemen to be really good for us in terms of the even-strength game. I think we got ourselves into penalty trouble a little bit and it took its toll. Talk about a guy like Schultz, he was really good at killing penalties for us.

On injuries among defensemen

Five-on-five, I thought we were really good. We didn’t want to split guys up and move guys around. Jeff Schultz can play well in his own zone, can move pucks. That’s exactly what he did. It’s not just Jeff Schultz, it’s everybody around us that has to step their game up.

Martinez has five points in the last six games (2-3=5)

Gaborik has nine points in the last seven games (6-3=9)

Kopitar has points in all nine playoff games (4-10=14)

Quick has a 1.29 GAA and .961 spct during his six-game win streak

The Kings have out-scored opponents 24-8 during their six-game win streak

The Kings all-time record for postseason win streak is eight (2012)

The longest point streak in Kings postseason history - one year - is 12 (Gretzky in 1993). Kopitar at now at 9

Schultz was the fourth player to make his Kings debut in the playoffs (joining Tanner Pearson, Brock Tredway, Mike Corbett)
