Post-Game Notes and Quotes - Game 3
Stats of interest and locker room reaction from STAPLES Center following Tuesday night\'s OT contest.

KINGS HEAD COACH DARRYL SUTTER:

(Re game recap): “Not quite enough tonight. I thought we played a pretty good hockey game. We were pretty good tonight and so were they.”

(Re top players): “I think our better players were better, that was for sure and it was noticeable. I think we can push that through our lineup because those are the guys that are going to pull us. That will give us a chance for the next game, right?”

(Re San Jose): “They’re a good hockey club, and I’m not saying that because they’re up three to nothing, they’re just a really good hockey club over there. I’ve been saying this. We couldn’t catch them and we knew we were going to play Anaheim or San Jose, and they’re really good opponents, and that’s what we’re up against. It’s a tough field, and we won’t go away quietly.”

KINGS FORWARD DUSTIN BROWN:

(Re San Jose power play): "I mean it's always hard. They have a very good power play and we had been successful up until the tying goal there. We have to find a way to get the job done. We have to win one game on Thursday and we will go from there."

KINGS GOALIE JONATHAN QUICK:

(Re game momentum): "I mean there were times in the first two game where we had momentum. We just need to keep working and win a game, It doesn't matter yet, up three or down three."

KINGS FORWARD MIKE RICHARDS:

(Re down 3-0 in series): "Just play each game and don't worry about what's ahead of you. We just need to have a mindset of winning the next game and go from there."

SAN JOSE HEAD COACH TODD MCLELLAN:

(Re intermission before overtime): “I just told our guys to settle down, play the way we know how. We got caught out in pieces a lot. Tired players did not manage the neutral zone real well, in fact, the only time we really got the puck behind them was the one forecheck we had, we scored, so we were not very good in that situation. They had the bat in their hands and they were going to swing it and they had us on their heels but sometimes it goes that way, we will take that break.”

(Re Nieto and Hertl): “This game and all year, they have been very important pieces. Obviously, Hertl being out for a lot, but Nieto’s speed, Hertl’s tenacity and Matt around the net, his ability, his skill. He had seven shots on goal tonight and that is not an easy team to get those shots against and they were playing more like they normally do tonight. We saw more of the game we expected in the series, but they both had a huge, positive impact on the game.”

SAN JOSE FORWARD JOE THORNTON:

(Re game recap): They’re a great team; we’ve had our problems here winning games, but just a huge, huge win for us. Patty Marleau to come up with that goal, it’s just huge for us. It was just going back and forth. It was a good physical game. I thought our power play could have ended it with two minutes left in the game, but it didn’t. It was just solid game for both teams and you can expect another one Thursday night.

SAN JOSE FORWARD LOGAN COUTURE:

(Re game recap): There were a couple times they were running out of position to hit me, and they took some penalties and you could feel their frustration a little bit. They played well it’s their best game this series. We matched them goal for goal, and then we got a good goal from Patty at the end there.

In overtime we weren’t making plays, we were kind of hanging on there. The bench and the coaches were trying to keep us calm and get us to make plays, and they really took it to us for the first five minutes of that overtime, then we got a lucky bounce and that’s the way things go sometimes.
