The Los Angeles Kings Beard-A-Thon® Is Back
Fans Invited To Grow One For The Team
The Los Angeles Kings BEARD-A-THON® is an opportunity for fans to grow their own playoff beard and raise money for charity. Proceeds from the 2014 Los Angeles Kings BEARD-A-THON® will benefit the Kings Care Foundation.
Participants in the Los Angeles Kings BEARD-A-THON® will again encourage their family and friends to support their playoff beards. The Kings raised more than $47,000 for Los Angeles Kings Charities in 2013 and hope to surpass that number this playoff season.

Since 2009, BEARD-A-THON® has raised more than $2 million for NHL team charities, and each year, some 7,000 fans, players and alumni sign up to grow in support of those worthy causes in their area.
About Los Angeles Kings Charities
In its seventeen year history, the Kings Care Foundation (Federal Tax ID # 95-4443065) has donated over $6 million in monetary and in-kind support to the local Los Angeles community. Among the foundation’s charitable partnerships, monetary contributions received as part of the Beard-A-Thon will support the foundation’s $1,000,000 commitment to the LA Kings BloodMobile, which serves as a blood drive supply truck to increase the much needed collection of life-saving blood for the most seriously ill and injured children at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles as well as a $1,000,000 donation to Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, to fund the construction of the camp’s Dining Hall and Activity Center. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds with benefit Reading is Fundamental of Southern California, a program aimed to promote literacy and motivate children to read by building at-home libraries for underserved children in Greater Los Angeles.
About Playoff Beards
A playoff beard is the superstitious practice of a hockey player not shaving his beard during the playoffs. The player stops shaving when his team enters the playoffs and does not shave until his team is either eliminated or wins the Stanley Cup®. The tradition started in the 1980s by the New York Islanders.

Along with McDonald’s, all were season-long partners and will add to their playoff presence with this commitment. Elements of the presenting partnerships include tags in all Kings marketing efforts, increased in-arena exposure, logos on all in-arena giveaways, and a significant on-line presence.
