L.A. Kings Score Humane Hat Trick for Best Friends Animal Society
The Kings Care Foundation has partnered with Best Friends Animal Society for a humane “hat trick” to promote pet adoption by:
- Posing with the organization’s adoptable dogs during a photo shoot on Friday, March 28 at the NKLA Pet Adoption Center in West Los Angeles.
- Hosting Best Friends Animal Society - Los Angeles at the Kings vs. Jets game on Saturday, March 29
- Providing a mobile adoption venue at the L.A. Kings practice on Sunday, March 30. Players and staff will be joined by mascot Bailey and the LA Kings Ice Crew at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo. Adopters will receive tickets to the LA Kings vs Minnesota Wild game on Monday, March 31, 2014 or other LA Kings incentive packages. The Kings Care Foundation will also sell co-branded, autographed pucks for $25 on-site, with all proceeds to benefit Best Friends Animal Society.
Best Friends Animal Society is the only national animal welfare organization focused exclusively on ending the killing of approximately 9,000 dogs and cats in America's shelters each day . Best Friends is working collaboratively in Los Angeles with animal rescue groups, city shelters and passionate individuals who are all dedicated to the mission of making Los Angeles a no-kill city. As part of this mission, Best Friends hosts adoption and fundraising events such as Strut Your Mutt, and the NKLA Adoption Weekends, runs both the Best Friends Pet Adoption & Spay Neuter Center in Mission Hills and the NKLA Pet Adoption Center in West Los Angeles, and leads the NKLA initiative.
In its seventeen year history, the Kings Care Foundation (Federal Tax ID # 95-4443065) has donated over $6 million in monetary and in-kind support to the local Los Angeles community. In January of 2014, the Kings Care Foundation proudly announced a $1,000,000 commitment to the LA Kings BloodMobile, which serves as a blood drive supply truck to increase the much needed collection of life-saving blood for seriously ill and injured children.
Having one of the city’s world-class athletic teams promote shelter pets in Los Angeles is particularly thrilling to Marc Peralta, executive director of Best Friends Animal Society – Los Angeles and a long-time hockey fan.
“By showing such compassion to shelter pets, the L.A. kings prove to be heroes on and off the ice,” Peralta said.
All adoptable pets from Best Friends are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. Each adoption includes a collar and customized pet tag, one month of veterinary insurance, and a bag of pet food. Any dog over 35 pounds and any cat over six months will have the adoption fee waived as part of Best Friends’ “More to Love” promotion.
According to Peralta, adoption is crucial to transforming Los Angeles into a no kill city.
“Since we pull all of our pets from Los Angeles Animal Services, every time you adopt from Best Friends Animal Society – Los Angeles, you’re really saving two lives – the one you take home and the one who will take its place at our adoption center,” Peralta said.
Meet the adoptable pets of Best Friends Animal Society – Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Kings players, staff and Ice Crew at on Sunday, March 30, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., Toyota Sports Center, 555 Nash Street, El Segundo. For more info, visit www.bestfriends.org/la.
