FLAMES + OILERS VS KINGS POINTS UPDATE:
LooKING Back:The last time the LA Kings played the Chicago Blackhawks... I used the GIF below in the GAMEDAY PREVIEW to illustrate how well the Kings had been playing:
Boy how times have changed. No, really... they have:
hello friends. your toronto maple leafs have the same number of points as the la kings and more than the vancouver canucks. ty— emily (@emilyg819) February 2, 2014
Well, at least they are both ahead of Vancouver!
WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE PAST GAME:Robyn Regehr played in his 1000th NHL on Saturday afternoon... and among other gifts, the LA Kings organization gave him an original painting from artist Tony Harris.
The portrayal in the painting is lifelike... no, not that of Regehr... but rather the Caravaggio-esque faces of the LA Kings fans behind him. This painting must have been commissioned during the recent stretch of the last six games.
The LA Kings are 1st team since the invention of the forward pass to have 1 player (Kopitar) score all the teams' goals in a 6 game stretch.— The Royal Half (@theroyalhalf) February 2, 2014
FYI, the forward pass was introduced to the NHL in 1929.
LA TOURISM BOARD:So the LA Kings are in a *little bit* of a scoring slump.
But fear not, LA Kings fans... because there are actually people out there that are having a harder time scoring than the LA Kings!
Even the LA Kings offense thinks the Denver Broncos should be embarrassed.— PumperNicholl (@PumperNicholl) February 3, 2014
TOP 3 PEOPLE STRUGGLING TO SCORE MORE THAN THE LA KINGS!!!The Cast of "Losin' It"
"Losin' It" is a 1983 movie about four high school seniors who travel to Mexico looking to score for the first time.
FYI, the director of this film would go on to do LA Confidential and 8 Mile.
So from the movie, it seems like when Tom Cruise is around, scoring could be close by. Well, I know an easy way to fix the LA Kings scoring woes then.
Gil Gunderson from The Simpsons When Gil Gunderson was 6 he was hired by his eight-year-old brother to run his sidewalk lemonade stand for the afternoon. By the end of the day, he had bankrupted his brother's business and drank up all the remaining inventory. If there is anyone having a run of bad luck that is worse than the LA Kings, it's our old pal Gil.
Maybe if the LA Kings could get Gil Gunderson to Staples Center, they could feel better about themselves and get back on track for another ring.
Composer Jerry Goldsmith
Jerry Goldsmith was an Oscar winning composer that passed away in 2004 at the age of 75. Goldsmith had an illustrious career as a composer but for a period in the late 1980s and 1990s, several of his scores were rejected by the directors and studios he was working with. His compositions for Wall Street, Alien Nation, Gladiator (not that one) and Two Days in the Valley were all spurned by the filmmakers at some point. But even though he was having trouble scoring, Goldsmith would go on to find a way to use his rejected works... as the composition that was refused by the producers of Alien Nation went on to become the much lauded soundtrack to the Sean Connery vehicle, The Russia House! So even though everyone on the LA Kings roster except for Anze Kopitar are not scoring... with just a little bit of patience, I'm sure these players will look deep inside themselves and put forth their best effort. Just like Jerry Goldsmith's score of the film Rudy!
