Brown Named Alternate Captain of U.S. Olympic Team
LA Kings forward Dustin Brown on Friday was named Alternate Captain of the United States team for the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
Brown also was an alternate captain four years ago in Vancouver. He is in his sixth season as captain of the Kings and also has captained the U.S. in international play, at the 2009 IIHF World Championship. In 55 games this season Brown has 10 goals and six assists.
Minnesota Wild forward Zach Parise was named captain and defenseman Ryan Suter named second alternate captain. The three were part of the leadership group U.S. general manager David Poile appointed at the summer evaluation camp.
The U.S. will be in Group A in preliminary-round play, and opens the Olympic tournament Feb. 13 against Slovakia.
