The Jr. Kings Look To Raise Funds For Trip To Quebec
The LA Jr. Kings Pee-Wee AAA Ice Hockey team has been accepted to participate in the International Quebec Pee- Wee hockey tournament. The Tournament starts on February 12 and runs through February 23. The games will be played at the Colisee Pepsi in beautiful downtown Quebec.
The Quebec tournament series is 55 years old. It is a tournament made up of the best 11 and 12-year-old hockey players from Canada, the United States and Europe. Current Kings players who have participated in the Tournament include Anze Kopitar, Jonathan Quick, Justin Williams, Matt Frattin, Matt Greene, Dustin Brown and Martin Jones.
In addition, Kings management will be represented this year. Assistant General Manager Rob Blake and Nelson Emerson, who works in the club’s player development department, both have sons who will be participating this year. Head Coach Darryl Sutter and John Stevens’ sons have attended this tournament and the tradition continues in our PeeWee team families with three players on the team whose fathers attended this tournament about 30 years ago -- Pat Brisson and Kevin Gallagher will see their sons play and Steve Yovetich will watch his daughter, Lily, compete.
The Jr. Kings PeeWee AAA team consists of 17 12 year olds who put their heart and passion into each game they play. The players not only share the love of the game, but work hard in school to maintain good grades. The team has a "brotherhood bond" that drives them to compete hard and work together as a team, allowing each player to achieve the best they have to offer. The support that they share for one another is one of their greatest strengths and these skills will translate into their everyday lives as they grow into elite team players in hockey as well as in school studies and eventually in the workplace.
This tournament is a great opportunity and a lifetime experience for these players to play against the best teams in their division in the world. While it is an expensive endeavor, we feel that this life experience is something that will stay with our team forever. They will stay with local Quebec City families and experience the local culture including pond hockey, some of them for the first time.
The Jr. Kings have set up a fundraising page that allows us to accept donations. They ask for your consideration and financial support in sending our team to Quebec to play in the Quebec International Pee-Wee hockey tournament!
