KINGS (29-16-6) at DUCKS (37-10-5)

7:00PM PT, TV: FOX SPORTS WEST; RADIO: AM 1150

DUCK TALES: This is the second of five meetings this season with the Anaheim Ducks. The Kings will see Anaheim again on Saturday at Dodger Stadium as part of the NHL’s Coors Light Stadium Series. The Kings beat the Ducks 3-2 in a contest that stretched to a nine-round shoot out at Honda Center on December 3. Can the Kings finish their road trip, which they’ve struggled through with a 1-2-1 record, with a win tonight in Anaheim?

HOT AT HONDA: The Ducks are no joke at Honda Center this season, carrying an outstanding, and near perfect 20-1-2 record on home ice this year. Anaheim had yet to lose a game in regulation time at Honda Center until Tuesday night, when the Winnipeg Jets came away victorious after 60 minutes in Orange County with a 3-2 win. The Ducks have only lost two other games in their home building this year, both coming in OT/SO, and one of them at the hands of the Kings. Can the Kings bag another two points tonight at the unforgiving Honda Center?

DUCKS WITH DARRYL: Dating back to December 22, 2011, which was Darryl Sutter’s first game at the helm of the Kings’ bench, the Kings have gone 6-1-1 against Anaheim in their last eight meetings. Can the Kings keep their winning trend true tonight with another two points against the Ducks?

THE LAST TIME WE WERE THERE: In the Kings’ last visit to Honda Center, they handed the Ducks one of their three losses on home ice this season. Martin Jones made his NHL debut, making 26 saves on Anaheim’s 28 shots, and stopping all nine of the Ducks’ shooters in the shootout frame.

Dwight King, the only player to score in the lengthy shootout, beat Anaheim’s Jonas Hiller in the ninth-round to notch two points for the Kings.

CROSS-TOWN TURNAROUND: The Kings have been in a stumble as of late, losing three straight games, and winning just four of their previous 14 games, going 4-8-2 in that span. If there were any time, any team to strike a momentum-shifting win against, it would be the cross-town rival Anaheim Ducks who are not just a rival, but a test. The Ducks, with their 37-10-5 record which equates to 79 points are atop the Pacific Division, the Western Conference, and the entire NHL.

THE CARTER: Jeff Carter has been on an offensive tear as of late, and has really been the only forward on the roster to score on a consistent basis through the month of January. Carter has goals in each of the Kings’ previous four games, and has 21 points (13G, 8A) in the Kings’ last 20 games.

Carter opened the scoring for the Kings in their last meeting with the Ducks on December 3, sending a wrister to the top-right corner past Jonas Hiller to give the Kings a 1-0 lead.

Can Carter strike in Anaheim tonight?
