OILERS + FLAMES VS THE KINGS POINTS UPDATE:

LooKING Back:

Yesterday afternoon in Boston, instead of being beaten by a tightly wound net of mesh... the LA Kings were beaten by a little ball of hate.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE PAST GAME:

I wish there was some way to visually represent how LA Kings fans are feeling after the team has dropped two games in a row on the road.

No.

Definitely not.

Close.

Nailed it. (and Dustin Brown)

LA TOURISM BOARD:

The Columbus Blue Jackets are the talk of hockey right now, as they've won 6 games in a row and somehow clawed their way back into the extremely tight and difficult Eastern Conference playoff race* by beating the worst team in the NHL!!! Hurray Blue Jackets!

*The Eastern Conference Race might be tight but it is not difficult.

And with a win over the LA Kings tonight, the Blue Jackets could set a franchise record for consecutive wins with 7. Since the Blue Jackets are on the cusp of such an important franchise record and are currently in a NHL playoff spot, we here at The Royal Half thought we'd combine the two and take an in-depth look at this franchise's record in the playoffs!

That's right, the Columbus Blue Jackets have been an NHL franchise for 13 seasons and have made the playoffs once... in 2009 when they were swept by the Detroit Red Wings in 4 games.

"Thanks, Mr. Babcock, but I'm not worried. I'm sure this is just the start of something great."

The last time the Columbus Blue Jackets played in a playoff game was April 23rd, 2009, so here are the Top 3 Hockey-Related Things that were still occurring in 2009.

THE ATLANTA THRASHERS

That's right, in Spring of 2009, the Atlanta Thrasher were a thing. And they would continue to be a thing for two more seasons before moving to Winnipeg. But the best part of the Thrashers-Blue Jackets connection is that even though the Thrashers are no longer a franchise... they share with the Columbus Blue Jackets the same total of wins by a franchise in the playoffs...

4!

THE TOP 3 PICKS FROM THE 2009 NHL ENTRY DRAFT

The same year that the Columbus Blue Jackets made the playoffs for the first time (and hasn't made it since) John Tavares, Victor Hedman and Matt Duchene were selected #1, 2 and 3 in the NHL draft as 18 year olds. Since they were drafted, these 3 have played in 30 playoff games combined. Meanwhile, if you combine the 6 players the Blue Jackets drafted in 2009, they have played 12 playoff games total...

... and they all came from John Moore playing for the Rangers last year.

STEVE MASON'S NHL CAREER

In 2009, Steve Mason was coming off a season in which he won the Calder Trophy, was nominated for the Vezina and more importantly, had led the Columbus Blue Jackets to their first post-season ever.

And he hasn't made it back since.

Today, Steve Mason is long gone from the sport of competitive hockey and has absolutely no chance of skating in a NHL playoff game ever again.

Like I said.

As created by Jesse Cohen from All The Kings Men Podcast... The Moulson Index™ highlights an opposing player from tonights game who has the opportunity to score against his former employer, the LA Kings.

Tonight's Moulson Index Spotlight is:

JACK JOHNSON, DEFENSE

In 4 games versus the LA Kings in his career, Jack Johnson has 1 GOAL & 1 ASSIST
