OILERS + FLAMES VS THE KINGS POINTS UPDATE:

LooKING Back:

Last Saturday, the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-1. But more importantly, Dustin Brown continued his season of terror... taking out yet anoth...

Pay no attention to Mike Santorelli pushing Brown into Luongo. It ruins the narrative.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE PAST GAME:

WHO CARES ABOUT THE LAST GAME?!? JEFF CARTER IS ON TEAM CANADA!!!

Seriously... have you ever seen Jeff Carter look so awesome???

Sorry, dumb question.

Sure, Jeff Carter might have been on the 2010 Canadian Olympic Team... but he didn't play any games as Canada went on to win the Gold. Leading up to the selection today, Jeff Carter was rumored to be on the bubble... but I think his goal celebration from last game put him over the edge.

Hmm... where have I seen that before?

Yup.

In addition to Jeff Carter... Drew Doughty and a bunch of other LA Kings made their respective Olympic teams. And long-time Olympic supporter Panini America decided to salute the Olympic NHL players the only way they knew how...

By taking a screenshot of an email attachment on their phone and tweeting it.

Here's a screenshot for when they eventually delete it.

So congrats to Canada on choosing Jeff Carter to lead your team to victory. Too bad you just forgot about one small detail...

Mike Richards.

(Yes, I know this is from Juniors... but how awesome is that photo?)

(And whatever happened to Danny Syvret?)

LA TOURISM BOARD:

It was January 7th, 1999... the Minnesota Wild were still a full year away from playing their first NHL game when Luc Robitaille scored his 500th career NHL goal.

It was 15 years ago today that Luc Robitaille scored his 20th and 21st goals of the 1998-99 season, which just happened to be the 499th and 500th of his career. It was also the the first season the LA Kings wore their brand new uniforms and the last season that they skated at the Great Western Forum. And to top it all off... the LA Kings finished last in the Pacific Division and 11th in the Western Conference.

Ahahaha, Canucks.

It truly was one of the worst recent LA Kings seasons and it was beautifully captured in Sean Pronger's book, Journeyman. (FYI, the part about Steve Duchesne is AMAZING.) So to honor the 15th anniversary of this LA Kings historical event... we asked Spike Coffman, who is The Royal Half's 1990s LA Kings Historian, to put together a vintage video tribute to that legendary night in Inglewood.

This game was so long ago, Dwayne Roloson was only 29 when he played in it.

This game was also played so long ago... Lindy Ruff had hair.

How awesome is that Sabres logo wipe in-between the replays.

Pavel Rosa scored 5 goals in his NHL career. And this is one of them.

Man, I'm glad LA Kings goalies don't make bonehead moves like that anymore.

Even though the Kings were having an awful season, huge celebrities still came to see them play.

Well, in 1999... Jim Carrey was a huge celebrity.

A Sandy Moger goal is the most late 1990s LA Kings thing ever.

Maybe Garry Galley will remember this shift the next time he criticizes anyone.

Peca from Ward is the most late 1990s Buffalo Sabres thing ever.

1999 CORSI, y'all!

And the celebrations of Luc's 500th were breathtaking...

Sweet napkin, bro.

This is the closest thing you get to Larry Robinson smiling.

"Hmm, 73 goals over the next two season, huh? Yeah, I'm not going to re-sign Luc."

I don't know about you... but I can't wait till Jeff Carter scores his 500th with the Kings.
