OILERS + FLAMES VS THE KINGS POINTS UPDATE:

LooKING Back:

The LA Kings started off 2014... um... just like they ended 2013... losing 5-0 to the St. Louis Blues. There are a lot of reasons for why the LA Kings have lost 5 games in a row... but I think we all know what the cause is.

A St. Louis Blues fan calling another team overrated? That's priceless!

I don't think that Martin Jones joining Twitter is the cause of this 5 game losing streak... especially because he now follows Ben Scrivens. No, I think there is another clear cut reason why the LA Kings have lost 5 games in a row. Ok fine, the LA Kings lost 5 in a row during the exact time that I took a little holiday trip to Mexico. But the real reason the LA Kings have lost 5 in a row... ... is because BOTH KingsMenPodcast and I have been out of town for the past 5 games. Well, we are back in town no... so no more excuses, LA Kings!

Damn, a photo of me finally got out there.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE PAST GAME:

Despite losing his last 3 games... Martin Jones had quite the month of December.

Since Martin Jones and Antti Raanta tied as NHL Rookie of the Month…

shouldn’t there be a shootout to decide the winner?

And what does Martin Jones win with his Rookie of the Month selection? A possible one-way trip to the snow!

Quick is scheduled to take part in the pregame skate Saturday and if all goes well, he will be activated off long-term injured reserve. To open a roster spot and salary-cap space, the Kings would send goalie Martin Jones to Manchester (N.H.) of the American Hockey League.
If Jonathan Quick does return tonight in Los Angeles, the LA Kings will have gone 14-7-3 without him in the lineup.

Thank you for your service.

And yes... Ben Scrivens did look a little bit rusty against the St. Louis Blues... so he had some one-on-one sessions with his personal goalie coach.

LA TOURISM BOARD:

Jon Quick isn't the only elite NHL and Olympic goalie that could be returning from injury tonight in Los Angeles...

...he's just the only one returning from injury that has won a Stanley Cup.

You know, I was searching for sad photos of Roberto Luongo on the internet for the above punchline and I discovered what the results are from Getty Images if you search "dejected luongo"...

Special Appearance by: Jaroslav Modry!

 Sad Massiomo Luongo.

As created by Jesse Cohen from All The Kings Men Podcast... The Moulson Index™ highlights an opposing player from tonights game who has the opportunity to score against his former employer, the LA Kings.

Tonight's Moulson Index Spotlight is:

BRAD RICHARDSON, CENTER

In 7 games versus the LA Kings in his career, Brad Richardson has 0 POINTS & 6 PIMs

THE ROYAL HALF GAMEDAY PREVIEW TWEET OF THE DAY

Everyone is talking about how the last time the LA Kings lost 5 in a row, they won the Cup...

...but they also had a Head Coach reach the 1000 game milestone.

In 177 games as Head Coach for the LA Kings, Darryl Sutter is 102-55-20. Here's to 1000 more!
