Kings vs Avalanche: Post Game Quotes
“The last two shifts of the first period were really good. They took an icing so we were able to get Kopi’s [Kopitar] line out there and they scored. We were able to play the last 30 seconds with the puck. It wasn’t just the last shift, it was the two last shifts.”

KINGS HEAD COACH DARRYL SUTTER:

(Re Kings’ first period goal ): “The last two shifts of the first period were really good. They took an icing so we were able to get Kopi’s [Kopitar] line out there and they scored. We were able to play the last 30 seconds with the puck. It wasn’t just the last shift, it was the two last shifts.”

(Re Kings‘ penalties): “You are going to get penalties. Against a team like that, especially when you have Duchene who is arguably the best player in the league right now, you can’t take those kinds of penalties.”

KINGS GOALTENDER MARTIN JONES:

(Setting Records): “It’s been good. I’ve said it before it’s a good start, but it’s something to build off of and make sure we keep getting better here.”

(Take away from today’s game): “I thought we deserved to win in regulation today. The way we played. I think we needed one more big save that we didn’t get in regulation there, but the guys did a really good job. They came hard on the fore-check. They are tough to break the puck out against, they come really quick. I thought we did a really good job winning battles.”

(Did you feel the shift in momentum on the ice): “There’s momentum in every game, momentum shifts. You just got to make sure you stay even, and keep working and doing the things that have made us successful.”

KINGS FORWARD ANZE KOPITAR:

(Confidence in Jones): “Yeah I think he is perfect in the shootout so far. Any goalie for us that is back there we have a lot of confidence in them. It’s up to the shooters to get a couple. Tonight we only needed one, as we did in Anaheim a few weeks back. It’s great and at the end of the day the most important thing is to get the two points.”

(Playing the Aves and ending up in overtime): “Well I don’t know. It’s kind of tough to pin point something particular reason, but they didn’t quit. We got up 2-0, maybe we held back a little bit too much and they came back on us.”

COLORADO HEAD COACH PATRICK ROY:

(Re game recap): “I thought we showed a lot of character, being down 2-0, we had a big break on that power play and you see how important it is to score on a power play. I thought it was a big point for us, no doubt about it.”

(Re shootout): “I don’t mind a shootout, I honestly think it should go back to what we were before, I mean if you can’t win a game in that five minute overtime, it should be a tie because in the end these are big points that teams pick up and I think it would make a big difference in the standings. At the same time, it is kind of entertaining for the fans; the fans seem to like it.

(Re game recap): “When you come here you have to be ready, it’s a good challenge for our team. I really thought we played well lately, and it was a good challenge this afternoon. I was very proud of our players, they showed a lot of character because down 2-0 in LA is not easy.”

COLORADO GOALTENDER SEMYON VARLOMOV:

(Re game recap): “Tough game for us, for sure. I think we played well during all three periods. We had pretty good chances to score but just didn’t score. Jones played well today. But we get a point, which is good.”

COLORADO FORWARD PA PARENTEAU:

(Re game recap): “I think we showed a lot of character in this building. It’s nice to see the power play get on the board too. I thought we could’ve gotten out of this game with our heads up. We played a strong game. It’s a really tough building to play in. They’re a really good squad.”

(Re Martin Jones): “He’s really good. He looks good. He’s a big guy, he’s quick and I think he’s got a great future in the NHL for sure. He looks really good.”
