FLAMES + OILERS VS KINGS POINTS UPDATE:
I mean... do we really need to say anything else?
Ok, also acceptable.
Oh man, I love this team right now.
6 points out of a possible 6. The LA Kings outscored Eastern Canada 14-3.
WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE PAST GAME:
Kings now 12-3-2 on the road (best 17-game road start in club history) — LAKingsPR (@LAKingsPR) December 14, 2013
Kings are now 13-1-4 in the last 18 games (.833 points pct) — LAKingsPR (@LAKingsPR) December 14, 2013
Jones has allowed three goals in the last 262:43 (0.69 GAA, .977 spct – stopping 130 of 133 shots) — LAKingsPR (@LAKingsPR) December 14, 2013
Huh, from NHL: Kings' 18 game stretch without allowing a first period goal ties NHL record set by the original Ottawa Senators in 1927-28. — James Gordon (@SensReporter) December 15, 2013Also, last night was the premiere of the new season of HBO 24/7: The Road to the Winter Classic. And while we can't post the clip here on the pages of the GAMEDAY PREVIEW because it's NSFW... we can link to it! But let's just say Slava Voynov's use of the English language is the breakout hit of the season.
Slava Voynov swearing forever. — PumperNicholl (@PumperNicholl) December 15, 2013
LA TOURISM BOARD:The Chicago Blackhawks have picked up right where they left off last season... and this year... being the best team in the Western Conference means so much more than it has in the past. But last night in Toronto, the Blackhawks became the opening story of next week's episode of 24/7, losing badly to a team the Kings just beat. With starting goaltender Corey Crawford out with an injury... things might start getting a little desperate in Chicago so that the Blackhawks can stay at the top of the Western Conference.
The #Blackhawks have acquired goaltender Jason LaBarbera from Edmonton in exchange for future considerations. http://t.co/RTCEYT1unv — Chicago Blackhawks (@NHLBlackhawks) December 14, 2013
Wow, that is desperate.
So today, let's take a look back to when Chicago and LA weren't such amazing teams with tight defensive systems. It's a little period of time I like to call the 1980s! Via The Royal Half’s Official LA Kings Historian, Spike Coffman, we have some vintage video clips from February 12, 1981.
I don't know why, but it makes me think of this:
Pretty sure Pete Weber just predicted the Coors Light Stadium Series™.
Before we get to the game, let's take a quick preview of these two teams and a look around the league.
Even the Florida Panthers Uniforms think this color scheme is awful.
Ah, Old Time Hockey. When LA Kings players were in the Top 10 of scoring in the NHL.Let's drop the puck!
Before this past road trip, this would be your only chance to see a Kings Power Play goal.
Andre St. Laurent is my favorite fashion designer.
That is some amazing hair on Reggie Kerr.
How I am just finding out there was a hockey player named "Bulley"?!?
1980s hockey, forever!
Back when Penalty Shots weren't used to settle ties.
"Neither goaltender is playing well." -Bob Miller, 1981.
FYI, that was just the 1st Period.
That can't be safe.
OMG, look at what the Blackhawks' trainers are wearing on the bench.
Triple Crown Line, forever.
Dave Taylor Legends Night is long overdue.
