OILERS + FLAMES VS THE KINGS POINTS UPDATE:
Thanks for nothing, #Lumbus.
LooKING Back:Tuesday night in Los Angeles... in a 5-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning... the Kings showed the rest of the NHL just how good this team looks right now.
Umm... not even close. And how much of a jerk is Brett Connolly?
WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE PAST GAME:
LA TOURISM BOARD:If it seems like it was just last Friday that the LA Kings were playing the New Jersey Devils... it was! And it's crazy that the Kings are playing the Devils twice and have yet to play the Anaheim Ducks. The Devils struggled to start their season but are now 6-3-1 in their last 10 games. Another team that has started to turn its season around is the Devils' Metropolitan Division rival, the Philadelphia Flyers. And yesterday we learned just how the Flyers and their Captain, Claude Giroux, have been able to get back on the winning track.
Via Broad Street Hockey: While this might have been a surprise to the majority of the hockey community... we here at The Royal Half were not caught off-guard at all. In fact, since we have access to all of the LA Kings players cellphones... today we want to reveal just how helpful Mike Richards has been to his fellow NHL players over the past few years.
A text from Mike Richards helped Claude Giroux settle down http://t.co/dk9GAKVxQm— Joe Yerdon (@JoeYerdonPHT) November 20, 2013
This is how Mike Richards texts. With Justin Williams on his wing.
For instance... just over a week ago, Mike Richards tried to give Steven Stamkos a heads-up about something he needed to improve.
And then wouldn't you know it... later that night:
Ya gotta listen to Richie.
In addition to the young superstars in the league, Mike Richards has also had a long text-advice relationship with fellow Team Canada star, Jarome Iginla. And during the Trade Deadline of 2011... with the Calgary Flames out of the playoffs... Iginla turned to Richards for help...
And during the Trade Deadline of 2012... Iginla turned to his old friend for advice once again...
And in Spring of 2013, on the evening on the Trade Deadline... Iginla came looking for help one more time...
I don't want you to get the wrong impression... not all of Mike Richards' text messages are filled with serious life advice... sometimes he's just having fun with the other members of the NHLPA. Like this text from early morning on April 12th, 2012...
Roberto Luongo isn't the only NHL goalie that Mike Richards has texted with. And unfortunately, not all of them listen to Richards' sound advice...
And finally... the best piece of advice that Mike Richards ever gave came on June 22nd, 2011... as Richards texted with his close friend and GM, Paul Holmgren.
