Ontario: Reign's Third Period Spark Leads to 4-3 Shootout Win
Ontario earns 20th win of the season before 8,409

ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign (20-7-1-0), defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL’s 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, had another amazing 4-3 comeback win over the San Francisco Bulls (11-17-1-3) at Citizens Business Bank Arena before a crowd of 8,409 on Saturday night. The highlight of the night was undoubtedly Colton Yellow Horn’s game-winning shootout goal which can be seen here.
The Reign drew first blood late in the first with Kyle Kraemer’s eighth goal of the season. Mario Lamoureux fed a strong pass to Kraemer who was positioned at the inside of the right circle. Kraemer picked up the pass and wristed the puck past Thomas Heemskerk. With the time expiring in the first period, the Bulls made the most of their third power play of the game. San Francisco attacked the Reign net and a quick bat in mid-air by Matt Clune sent the loose puck onto the sticks of the Bulls'. Justin Bowers got the puck and fired a hard shot through traffic past Chris Carrozzi.
Ontario’s patience wore thin in the second period when a huge scrum broke out behind the Bulls’ net resulting in the Reign being down two men for five minutes. While trying to kill the major penalties, the Bulls scored two more power-play goals at 17:17 and again at 18:22. Former Reign forward Jordan Morrison netted both goals for the Bulls. Morrison sent a laser through the Reign’s defense deep into the Reign net. Moments later he struck again off a rebound he flicked up and over Carrozzi.
Never a team to back down from a challenge, the Reign came back in full force for the final regulation period. Chris Cloud earned his first goal of the season 10:09 into the third. Dan DaSilva moved the puck from the Bulls blue line to Cloud who was all alone at the right circle. Cloud fired a shot top shelf to beat Heemskerk. Vincent LoVerde came up huge for the Reign tying the game with less than three minutes left to force an overtime period. Neither team could find the back of the net in the extra frame sending the game into a shootout decision.
Ontario took the lead with Lamoureux scoring the first goal in the second round. Yellow Horn scored an unbelievable game-winning goal in the second round as he stickhandled up the middle, moved the puck to his right foot, kicked it back to his stick, spun around, and buried it in the Bulls net to send Citizens Business Bank Arena into a frenzy. San Francisco scored to force another round in which Jason Beeman netted his shot to end the game in favor of the Reign.
