Daryl Evans To Serve As Special Broadcaster In Bakersfield Saturday

Kings Radio Color Commentator Daryl Evans, who is also an active member of the LA Kings Alumni Association Presented By Toyota, will be serving as a special broadcaster Saturday night for the ECHL’s Bakersfield Condors.

The Condors will be taking on division rival the San Francisco Bulls at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield at 7 p.m. Evans will provide color commentary, joining Bakersfield play-by-play voices Ryan Holt and Kevin Bartl in the broadcast booth. Evans will also hold an autograph session pre-game.

“It is an honor to be invited to come up to Bakersfield and participate in the game,” said Evans. “I’m looking forward to it and look forward to the energy in the building.”

Evans is in his 14th season as the Kings Radio Color Commentator alongside play-by-play voice Nick Nickson.

“It’s a great honor to have a Kings legend make the trek to Condorstown for this night,” said Condors Vice President of Communications Kevin Bartl. “It is a great opportunity for us and our fans to have someone of his abilities bring his expertise to the broadcast. We’re very appreciative of Mr. Evans and the Kings for lending us his voice for the night.”

Saturday’s game will be broadcast locally in Bakersfield on the home of Condors hockey, Fox Sports Radio 970 AM and nationally on www.foxsports970am.com. Additionally, the iheartradio app (Fox Sports 970 Bakersfield) will carry the game and will be streamed worldwide through the official pay-per-view video provider of the ECHL, www.americaonesports.com.

In his 14th season as the Kings Radio Color Commentator, Evans and Nickson are heard on all club radio broadcasts on flagship station KTLK AM 1150 and along the Kings Radio Network.

A member of the Kings as a player from 1981-85, Evans scored the franchise’s most memorable goal in a game forever remembered as the “Miracle on Manchester.” Down 5-0 in the third period of that game on April 10, 1982, the Kings steadily chipped away at Edmonton’s lead and tied the game with five seconds left in regulation. At 2:35 of the extra period, Evans, then a rookie, sent a shot over Grant Fuhr’s shoulder to seal an improbable end to an incredible game. Evans went on to lead the Kings in playoff scoring with 13 points (5-8=13) in 1982.

Along with being an active member in the LA Kings Alumni Association Presented By Toyota, Evans has also for the past six seasons spearheaded a charitable giving program in which he donated $100 for every Kings power-play goal scored (for a total of $38,300) in both the regular season and the playoffs. The proceeds the first three years went to the Ronald McDonalds House of Southern California while the proceeds from the past two seasons went to the American Heart Association.

Originally selected by the Kings in the ninth-round (178th overall) of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft, the left wing recorded 52 points (22-30=52) in 113 career NHL games with the Kings, Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs. Also, in 11 career playoff games, Evans, 51 (1/12/61), registered 13 points (all of those 13 points came with the Kings during the 1982 playoffs).

Evans, additionally, continues to serve as a Power Skating Consultant for the Kings, having started those duties in 2007.
