Reign: Calla and Asuchak Back on the Forward Line
Two wingers bring roster to 16
ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign, 2011-12 Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL’s 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, announced that they have re-signed forwards Brady Calla and Spencer Asuchak.
Calla, 24, played in 40 games with the Reign last year and recorded 22 points (6g, 16a) with a plus-minus rating of plus 8. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward earned his 50th professional point, an assist, with the Reign on the game winning goal against Alaska in a 4-1 victory. Calla also played in his 150th professional game with Ontario.
The Kelowna, British Columbia native has seen professional ice time since 2007 when he debuted with the Rochester Americans (AHL) for six games where he earned four points (2g,2a). He would appear in games with the Americans for three more seasons bringing his AHL totals to 15 points (5g, 10a) in 64 games.
Calla debuted in the ECHL with the Florida Everblades in 2009-10 and signed with the Cincinnati Cylones the following year. Between the two ECHL clubs he tallied 27 points (9g, 18a) in 51 games.
As a junior playing in the WHL Calla earned 173 points (62g, 111a) in 321 games. His six seasons in the Western League were split between the Spokane Chiefs, Kamloops Blazers, Moose Jaw Warriors and Everett Silvertips.
Asuchak (ass-UH-chuck), 20, made his professional debut with the Reign late last season for three games. He spent his 2011-12 season with the Prince George Cougars (WHL) for 71 games posting a career-high 36 points (18g, 18a) and 71 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound winger spent four seasons at the junior level in the Western League between the Tri-City Americans and Prince George Cougars. For a total of 224 games Asuchak earned 95 points (49g, 46a) and 208 penalty minutes.
