Dwight King Signs With The Kings For Two More Years
The 23-year old native of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, scored five postseason goals for the 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Kings
LOS ANGELES – The 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings have signed forward Dwight King to a two-year contract, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.
King, 23 (turned 23 on July 5), collected 14 points (5-9=14), 10 penalty minutes and a plus-3 rating in 27 regular season games this past season. He was recalled by the Kings from the Manchester Monarchs (AHL) on February 10 after registering 29 points (11-18=29), 20 penalty minutes and plus-6 rating in 50 AHL regular season games with Manchester. At the time of his recall, King was tied for second in points and second in assists on the Monarchs.
King, a 6-3, 234-pound native of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, earned his first career NHL points (a goal and an assist) in his eighth career NHL game at Dallas on February 12.
During the Kings 2012 run to the Stanley Cup championship, King collected five goals, eight points (5-3=8), 13 penalty minutes and a plus-3 rating. He ranked tied for first in goals scored during the postseason and tied for second in postseason game-winning goals scored (2) amongst rookies in 2012, and four of his five postseason goals were scored against Phoenix in the Western Conference Final series.
Originally selected by the Kings in the fourth-round (109th overall) in the 2007 NHL Draft, King has 14 points (5-9=14), 12 penalty minutes and a plus-1 rating in 33 career NHL regular season games – all with the Kings. He made his NHL debut with the Kings on November 17, 2010, vs. Columbus.
