Thank You, LA Kings
Five For Fighting's John Ondrasik pens his final entry of the 2011-12 NHL season about the Stanley Cup Champion LA Kings
Before the tears dry let me say Thank You to the L.A Kings.
Thank You Dustin Brown for your leadership on and off the ice. You said all the right things and played the game with honor. Tattoo the C, you now join Kareem as a Los Angeles Captain for life.
Thank You Jonathan Quick for being the most humble MVP champion in L.A. sports history. You are a role model for our kids and your talent is only exceeded by your mental tenacity.
Thank You Mike Richards for being the Big Intangible. You are the smartest hockey player I’ve seen since 99. Though twenty players share the heart of this team, in my mind, you started it beating with your arrival.
Thank You Anze Kopitar for being our best player that doesn’t wear a mask. Who dons a plastic crown for a Cup Celebration? You! Because you are a generally nice person, and a son all Kings fans adopt with pride.
Thank You Justin Williams for being the piece. You’re experience, outlook, and freedom of play was evident all playoffs long.
Thank You Drew Doughty for the smiles. Not sure which is more fun, watching your Bobby Orr runs or your reaction after wins. You make us young again.
Thank You Willie Mitchell. When you signed your new deal and said this was a Stanley Cup Contending team, we were.
Thank You Matt Greene. Your consistency of play is only rivaled by your value in the locker room.
Thank you Rob Scuderi. Though the scars of game six will fade, our pride for you never will.
Thank You Dustin Penner for the best sound bites in Kings history. You made us laugh and taught us much about redemption and pancakes.
Thank You Jeff Carter for coming through when it mattered most. Now get off Richie’s couch! Stanley Cup Champions deserve their own pad.
Thank You Jarret Stoll. If there was a face off for my life, I’d have you take it. The OT winner against the Canucks was my favorite King moment until we raised the silver.
Thank you Simon Gagne for having the professionalism to get into hockey shape knowing there was a small chance you would play in these playoffs. You were one of the better players in the finals and deserve the engraving.
Thank You Alec Martinez for playing with the poise of a vet. That run on the 2nd goal in game six was Epic.
Thank You Slava Voynov for having the maturity to play your game even though the breaks may have gone against you. You have no idea what you have just done, but you will one day.
Thank You for Trevor Lewis for never giving up and proving that hard work will be rewarded. Your speed and work on the PK was crucial all playoffs long.
Thank You Dwight King for being Big, Fearless, and Clutch. Welcome to the NHL.
Thank You Jordan Nolan for your energy and playoff beard. You made your dad proud.
Thank you Colin Fraser for your love of the game, and leadership on the best 4th line of the playoffs.
Thank You Brad Richardson for some crucial moments and constant effort.
Thank You Jonathan Bernier. Knowing you were there gave us confidence that we were covered. You’re time will come.
Thank You Kyle Clifford. Tough break with the injury but as a vital part of this team, your toughness and willing to do it all is recognized and appreciated.
Thank You Davis Drewiske for giving us the insurance to know that we were 7 deep.
Thank You Kevin Westgarth for your optimism. You are a perfect teammate and we will need you next year when the wreckage of our run looks for revenge.
Thank You to Daryl Sutter for guiding my favorite team to a Championship. You’re humanity and worldview is as honest as it is priceless. Congratulations.
Thank You to Dean Lombardi for putting together the pieces of the dream. I can only imagine the year you’ve had. Enjoy it. Enjoy it.
Thank You Dave Taylor. You were always my favorite player and this moment does not happen without you.
Thank You Tim Leiweke for being the King of all Kings fans. We understand what you have done for us, and we’ll never forget it.
Thank You Phil Anschutz for all you have done for Los Angeles. May the Galaxy and Kings bring you many more rings.
Thank You John Stevens, Ron Hextall, Bernie Nichols, and all in Kings management and staff.
Thank You Jim Fox. I can imagine you were the only guy who cried more than I did. New Motto Jimmy – “One Cup at a Time”
Thank You Nick Nickson, We feel like you are our brother Nick. You’re professionalism and class has always made us proud. Know I turned the TV volume down ever game just to hear your call, even with the delay!
Thank you Daryl Evans. You bleed L.A. Kings. I’m sure nobody is happier than you to pass the torch of Kings greatest moment.
Thank You Bob Miller. I can speak for all Kings fans in saying there is nobody we are happier for than you. We just love you Bob. Congratulations.
Thank you to Luc Robitaille, the only thing lucky about you, is how lucky we are to have you.
KINGS FANS! WE DID IT! THERE’S ALWAYS THIS YEAR! IT’S REAL!
See you when we raise the Banner.
