Meet Me In St. Louis
No, I'm not going to give you the dictionary definition. You don't need it Kings fans.
Let me say what nobody else will (or should).
No matter what else happens, this has been a Great Year!!!
Knocking out the Diving Diva's is SWEEEEEET!
Be honest. After blowing the final regular season games against the Sharks, you had that sinking feeling again. Yes, we'd played a great three weeks to get into the playoffs, but here was the team that imploded a 4-0 game three lead in last year's first round. Right???
In not grabbing the third seed here came the dreaded Canucks, every pundit's (except Melrose's) pick to be Cup finalists. I went on sports radio lamenting the Kings chances in advancing going from 50/50 to 10 percent.
Well, put a Benji on 10 Black and raise a Stolly to the 2012 LA Kings!
I'm so pleasantly shocked, that I've postponed my mid-life crisis.
The team is saying all the right things...let's paraphrase:
"Huge win for the franchise, but our work is not done." "We'll enjoy this tonight and refocus tomorrow." "The goal every year is to win the Stanley Cup."
All of which are true, but here are some other facts of life:
Whacking the Canuckleheads in five is the greatest Kings moment since the cup run of 1993. (Yeah we beat the Red Wings once, but so what.) The Canucks are a great team (freaking Daniel and Henrik are magic). We knocked out the best team in hockey. The Kings can beat anybody. The Kings can lose to anybody. J. Quick proved that he is not just a regular season wonder. Franchise him. Dean Lombardi is as safe as Matt Kemp. Darryl Sutter - Get a farm in Malibu cause your staying a while. For all the doubters (me too), Dustin Brown earned the C. Drew Doughty's 3rd period end around was massive. Willie Mitchell was the Kings best defenseman and crucial on the PK. Sutter rolling the 4 lines paid off big.
Hockey Fact: One playoff series upset win erases a frustrating underachieving season. Hockey Fact: Any team left could win the cup. Hockey Fact: The Kings are going to the second round.
I've been waiting a long time to say that that one.
After the game one win, the Kings Twitter feed got some heat for saying, "You're welcome" to all of non-riot Canada. The tweet was fine, but came three wins too early.
Hey @lakings - Retweet!
We're moving on. It's all gravy now.
St. Louis? Without Pujols?
