Scholarship Winners To Be Honored
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings and the local sports community lost a special friend on May 31, 1998, when Kings media relations assistant Michael Jund passed away due to a heart condition at the age of 22.

In Michael’s honor, the Jund family, the Kings and the Kings Care Foundation are pleased to announce that Sarah Sotoodeh, Spencer Votipka and Jamie Krispel are the recipients of the 13th annual MICHAEL JUND SPORTS MEDIA SCHOLARSHIP AWARD.

Designed to reward hard-working college students who shared Michael’s goal of working in the communications side of the sports industry, the three college students will be honored tonight during the first period of the Kings-Nashville game at STAPLES Center.  Each will receive a $1,000 scholarship toward their education.

Sarah is from Austin, Texas, and is a graduate student at USC.  She is an intern for the Kings alumni department.  Jamie is an intern for the Kings community relations department.  She attend Chapman University and is from Cypress.  Spencer attends California Lutheran University.  He is from Ft. Collins, Colorado and works in the Kings communications department as an intern.

The award is based upon the qualities that made Michael an excellent worker - strong technical knowledge of sports, superior media/public relations writing and communication skills, dedication to the job and an ever-present positive attitude.

The Kings, winners of three games in a row, host the Nashville Predators tonight at 7:30 p.m.  The game will be broadcast on FS West and AM 1150.
