Postgame Notes: Kings 1, Stars 0

KINGS HEAD COACH TERRY MURRAY:
(Re game recap): “Anytime a goaltender gets a shutout obviously contributes and the defensemen are doing a good job. You’ve got to give the goaltender a lot of the credit. He’s focused, he’s dialed in. Aggressive to the shots and I thought tonight he was again on his game. He just followed up his game in Phoenix with probably playing as good as he has all year and brought the same game here tonight.”

(Re Quick’s mechanics:) “His technique, his style is in place. He’s a goaltender who is instinctive. He reacts to the play. He does have a good foundation…Right now he’s dialed in…I think he’s play outside of the net is as good as I’ve seen.”

(Richard’s fight:) “Those are the instincts that come out of his game, that’s who he is. He’s a talented guy but what makes Mike Richards a special player is his character, his leadership, and then the instinctive part of his game where he reacts and takes care of business in all areas of the game what he has to, which means fighting sometimes or saying something, doing something, blocking a big shot. Whatever it might be he has that innate ability to recognize it and to be able to go out and do it. That’s why we’re excited to have him.”

KINGS GOALIE JONATHAN QUICK:
(Re third straight shutout): “It feels great to have that done but at the end of the day it’s one game. It’s a long season and we got to keep the momentum going into Tuesday night.”

(Re feeling locked in): “Obviously I do feel good, but we have guys battling in all areas, especially in the D-zone on the boards and clearing out the front of the net. They’re clearing out rebounds and doing their job, which makes my job even easier.”

KINGS DEFENSEMEN JACK JOHNSON:
(Re game-winning goal): “We had talked about it beforehand. Richards had said how he wanted to win it back. It was a set-up play that worked out.”

(Re Dallas’ shot blocking): “We knew that going in they were going to block a lot of shots. You can’t get frustrated, you just got to keep firing high and hard enough and hopefully they won’t want to go down to block them. Sometimes that’s life though.”

DALLAS HEAD COACH GLEN GULUTZAN:
(Re game recap):  “We’re disappointed with the outcome but I guess we are going to rationalize it to ourselves in the fact that we thought that we played real well and the game could have gone either way. I think that as long as we are moving forward as a group then I think we took a step forward today as far as where we think we can compete in this division and I thought it was a good hockey game. I thought this was our best game all year from start to finish. I thought that we are playing against a high-caliber hockey club and we played a solid game and it was real good for the fans”

DALLAS FORWARD BRENDEN MORROW:
(Re game recap): “I don’t think there are a lot of things in the game we can complain about besides finishing. Sometimes the puck just doesn’t go in for you and we didn’t get one tonight. When we have success, we’re getting pucks deep. With guys like Kopitar and Richards you don’t’ really want to play in your zone; the easiest way to defend is to play in the offensive zone.”

DALLAS DEFENSEMAN ALEX GOLIGOSKI:
(Re game recap): “We played the way we wanted to and I think if we play that way the rest of the way we’ll be alright. We were really good tonight, but the blue lines and stuff was tough, the ice was pretty bad out there. We were really good tonight, especially on back-to-back nights, it shows mental toughness more than anything.”
