Voynov Named to 2010-11 AHL Second All-Star Team
SPRINGFIELD, MA – The American Hockey League announced today that Manchester Monarchs defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov was named to the 2010-11 AHL Second All Star Team, as voted by AHL coaches, players and media in each of the league’s 30 member cities.

Voynov, 21, was drafted in the second-round (32nd overall) by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.  In his third year in Manchester, Voynov has accumulated 13 goals and 33 assists for 46 points (13-33=46), placing him fifth on the Monarchs in scoring.  In 71 games this season with Manchester, Voynov has recorded a team-best plus-19 rating in addition to making his second straight AHL All-Star Classic appearance.  The defenseman also recorded a point in 10-of-12 games during the month of December.

The native of Chelyabinsk, Russia has eclipsed his previous season-highs in goals (13), assists (33) and points (46).  Voynov’s 13 goals also tie him for fourth place among AHL defenseman and his 46 points tie him for seventh place overall in the AHL among blueliners in points.

Also named to the Second All-Star Team alongside Voynov was goaltender Curtis Sanford of the Hamilton Bulldogs, defenseman Andre Benoit of the Binghamton Senators, left wing Nigel Dawes of the Bulldogs, center Keith Aucoin of the Hershey Bears and right wing Darren Haydar of the Chicago Wolves.

First All-Star Team nominations included goaltender Brad Thiessen from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani of the Portland Pirates, defenseman Maxim Noreau of the Houston Aeros, left wing Alexandre Giroux of the Oklahoma City Barons, center Corey Locke of the Senators and right wing Mark Mancari of the Pirates.
