LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have activated left wing Marco Sturm from the non-roster injured list, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.
Sturm, 32, is expected to be in the line-up tonight for the Kings in Colorado, marking his debut with the team (he will wear No. 10). Acquired by the Kings on December 11 from Boston for future considerations, Sturm spent the last five seasons with the Bruins where he compiled 193 points (106-87=193), 156 penalty minutes and a plus-24 rating while serving as a club alternate captain. Sturm has not played in a game this season due to a lower-body injury.
The 6-foot, 194-pound native of Dingolfing, Germany had 37 points (22-15=37), 30 penalty minutes and a plus-14 rating in 76 regular season games for Boston last season. He also appeared in seven playoff games with the Bruins.
In 855 career NHL games with the Bruins and San Jose Sharks, Sturm has accumulated 466 points (234-232=466), 398 penalty minutes and a plus-66 rating. In 52 career postseason games he has 19 points (8-11=19) and 22 penalty minutes. He is the all-time NHL leader in games played, goals, assists and points by a German-born player. Sturm was originally drafted by San Jose in the first round (21st overall) in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft (by then-Sharks General Manager Lombardi).
The Kings conclude their five-game road trip tonight in Colorado at 6:30 p.m. (PT) on PRIME Ticket, KTLK 1150 and along the Kings Radio Network. The Kings then open a two-game homestand beginning on Thursday against Edmonton at 7:30 p.m.
