Kings defenseman/assistant captain Matt Greene recently underwent shoulder surgery. Expected recovery time from the surgery is approximately three months.

Greene appeared in 75 games with the Kings in 2009-10, scoring 2-7=9 (the two goals tied a career high) while ranking ninth in the NHL (third among defensemen) with 238 hits. He also recorded at least one blocked shot in 55 of his 75 games in leading the Kings with 126. He added an assist in the Kings six-gave first round Stanley Cup Playoff loss to the Vancouver Canucks.

The 6-3, 237-pound rearguard had played in 160 consecutive games from Jan. 20, 2008 to Jan. 9, 2010 before being sidelined with a lower body injury.

Since being acquired from Edmonton with Jarret Stoll for Lubomir Visnovsky on June 29, 2008, Greene has played in 157 games scoring 4-19=23, with a plus-4 rating and 194 penalty minutes.

For his career, Greene has played in 308 games, collecting five goals, 31 assists and 399 penalty minutes since being drafted in the second round, 44th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers.
