Holloway tied the AHL record for game-winning goals in the Monarchs 1-0 win on Wednesday night.

WORCESTER, MA – Goaltender Jonathan Bernier blanked the Worcester Sharks and left wing Bud Holloway tied the American Hockey League record for game-winning goals in a single playoff season with six as the Manchester Monarchs skated to a victorious 1-0 win at the DCU Center on Wednesday night. Manchester leads the 2010 Calder Cup Atlantic Division Final series 3-2 with game six at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m.

“Every sport has specialty players,” said Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris in reference to Holloway tying the AHL’s game-winning goal record. “(Holloway) is hitting his stride right now and he’s really grown this season.

“For the most part, we kept (Worcester) to the outside and the quality chances they had, Bernier was stellar. We played hard as a team. It should be a dandy game next time the puck drops.”

The Monarchs scored the first goal of the game for the fourth time in the five games thus far in this series. Holloway netted his team-leading sixth goal of the post-season at 13:11 of the opening period. Right wing John Zeiler directed the puck along the left wing boards to center Gabe Gauthier behind the Sharks cage. Gauthier found Holloway all alone in the slot for a one-timer that beat Sharks netminder Alex Stalock and snuck inside the left post for the 1-0 advantage.

Bernier (7-2) earned his second shutout of the playoffs with 30 saves. Stalock (6-4) took his fourth post-season loss with 24 saves on 25 shots.

Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Worcester was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
