Kings Sign Muzzin; Activate Stoll
Jake Muzzin
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have signed defenseman Jacob Muzzin to a three-year entry level contract, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced Monday. The Kings have also activated center Jarret Stoll from the injured reserve list and he is expected to return to the Kings line-up tonight.

“We are excited to have Jake in our organization and view him as a good prospect. He has a blend of size, grit, skill and competitiveness that our organization’s covets” said Kings Vice President/Assistant General Manager Ron Hextall.

Added Greyhounds GM Dave Torrie: “Our organization is very proud of Jake and his accomplishments over his 5 years with the Soo Greyhounds. To know what adversities he has faced early in his career and to see him grow and develop as a young man and as a hockey player has been very rewarding. As an organization we are proud of the role we have played in helping Jake achieve his goal of signing with an NHL organization. Our coaches have done a great job of working with Jake to help him become the player he is today. We all look forward to following Jake's progress and anticipate the day he realizes his dream of playing in the NHL."

Muzzin, 20, currently plays for the Soo Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He leads the OHL in points by a defenseman with 46, which also leads his team, and he has also recorded 10 goals and 58 penalty minutes in 36 games this season with the Greyhounds. One season ago, Muzzin was named to the OHL’s Western Conference All Star roster.

The club’s captain, this is Muzzin’s fourth season with the Greyhounds. In 203 career regular season games, Muzzin has 97 points (23-74=97) while in 23 career playoff games he has eight points (1-7=8).

A native of Woodstock, Ontario, the 6-2, 216-pound Muzzin was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fifth round (141st overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He also is the third player within the last three years to sign with the Kings organization, joining former Greyhound forward Wayne Simmonds and defenseman Andrew Campbell.

Stoll, 27, has missed the Kings’ last seven games due to a lower body injury. In 33 games this season, Stoll has 25 points (10-15=25) and 22 penalty minutes. His 10 goals rank fourth on the team, he has a plus-9 rating, which is third best on the team, he is tied for second on the team with three-game winning goals and he leads the team in face-off percentage (54.6).

Stoll and the Kings play at San Jose tonight at 7:30 p.m. The game will be aired on FS West, KTLK AM 1150 and along the Kings Radio Network. The Kings return to action at STAPLES Center on Thursday against Detroit at 7:30 p.m. to open a season-high seven-game homestand.
