It's been quite a week for Nick Nickson.

(Kings Broadcasting History)

On Tuesday, Nickson became a grandfather for the first time, as his son Nicholas and wife Alexandra, gave birth to their first child, Nicholas Casey, giving the radio "Voice of the Kings" his first grandson.

On Wednesday, Nickson celebrated the 28th anniversary of his first game with the Kings, an 8-1 win vs. Detroit on Nov. 18, 1981. Nickson, at the time, served as the Kings color analyst, paired up with Bob Miller for the telecast of the game, in which Marcel Dionne tallied four goals and the "Triple Crown Line" combined to score five of the eight Kings goals and 5-6=11 in the game (Dionne 4-1=5, Dave Taylor 0-2=2 and Charlie Simmer 1-3=4).

Nickson, now in his 29th season with the Kings, calls the action of every pre-season, regular season and post-season playoff game on KTLK AM 1150 and along the Kings Radio Network.

He partnered with Bob Miller from 1981-90 on the Kings simulcast (television and radio), before calling play-by-play on the radio starting in 1990, when he collaborated with injured Kings forward Tom Laidlaw.

He has since worked with Brian Engblom (1991-95), Mike Allison (1995-98), Cammi Granato (1998-99) and finally, Daryl Evans for the last 10 years in the Kings radio booth.

On Jan. 21, 2006, the Kings held “Nick Nickson Day” at STAPLES Center, and Nickson was honored on the ice before a game for his 25 years of service to the organization as a radio and television broadcaster. As part of the ceremony, the club officially announced that the broadcast booth area at STAPLES Center had been named the Nick Nickson Broadcast Center in his honor.

Congratulations Nick.
