Williams Doubtful Tonight
|LA could be without a member of their top line tonight as Justin Williams is doubtful after sustaining a "lower body.|
Terry Murray would not disclose the nature of the injury but said he doesn’t expect Williams to be out for long. Williams left the ice early, under his own power, and didn’t appear to be seriously hurt. Murray said any number of players - Dustin Brown, Alexander Frolov, Trevor Lewis, Peter Harrold or Teddy Purcell - could take Williams’ place on the Kings No. 1 line alongside center Anze Kopitar and left wing Ryan Smyth.
"I've got to think about that," Murray the Kings media after practice. "I’m going to talk and make a decision on it, obviously for this evening. I’m a little hesitant, when a player gets injured, to break up another line, to move a player to that spot. I generally like to keep my second and third lines the same in this kind of situation, and move another player into that spot. Saying that, it could be (Trevor) Lewis. Harry (Peter Harrold) is my other option on the right side, so it could come down to one of those guys."
Williams has gotten off to a great start with the Kings in 2009-10, third on the team in scoring with 3-6=9. The line of Smyth-Kopitar-Williams has combined to score 14 of the Kings 28 goals and 35 points overall in nine games.
Williams, acquired by Los Angeles from Carolina in exchange for Patrick O'Sullivan and a 2009 second-round draft pick at the 2009 trade deadline, is a two-time 30 goal scorer and has posted 128-201=329 in 512 with the Flyers, Hurricanes and Kings.
He has scored 4-9-13 in 21 games with LA.
