Reign Win Big
The Reign reclaimed the lead and Greg Hogeboom registered his second point of the night at 12:11. Defenseman David Walker and Tim Kraus, who also notched his second point of the night on the play, grabbed the assists and Ontario took a 2-1 lead.
Just when it looked like the Condors were going to kill off a hooking minor, Ontario’s power play unit came up with a goal at 16:01. Tim Kraus was headed to the net but had the puck knocked off his stick by a Bakersfield defender. Center Adam Henrich grabbed the loose puck and pushed it into the crease, where it squeezed past the Condors’s Pielmeier and over the goal line. David Walker added another assist on the power play goal, and Ontario headed into the second period with a 3-1 lead.
Right wing Jon Rheault claimed his first point of the season at 5:17, after receiving a feed from Adam Henrich who was stationed behind the net. Rheault skated to the top of the crease and quickly fired off a shot that slipped under Pielmeier’s left pad. Rheault extended the Reign’s lead to three goals and Henrich claimed his second point of the game.
Right wing Dan Sexton answered back less than three minutes later. He picked up the puck left behind the net by right wing MacGregor Sharp and snapped into over the goal line to bring the Condors within two of the Reign.
During a Reign power play, Adam Henrich notched his third point of the night when he picked up the rebound from defenseman Mike Egener’s shot and slid the puck over the goal line. Jon Rheault picked up his second point of the night and the Reign took a 5-2 lead over Bakersfield.
Greg Hogeboom further extended the Ontario lead and scored two goals to close out the second period. On the first, Hogeboom beat Pielmeier with an assist from Tim Kraus, who marked his fourth assist of the night on the play. Then, with only five seconds remaining in the second, Hogeboom got out ahead of the play on a breakaway and flipped a wrist shot past Pielmeier and into the back of the net. Center Jon Francisco and forward Dwight King picked up the assists on the play, which not only gave the Reign a 7-2 lead, but registered a hat trick and fourth point of the game for Greg Hogeboom.
The third period saw a new goaltender between the pipes for Bakersfield, as the Condors pull Timo Pielmeier and put in Justin Pogge, who shutout the Reign in Friday night’s match. Pogge managed to save every shot he faced, except for one that found its way past him at 13:21 on the Reign’s ninth power play of the night. Mike Egener’s slapshot proved to be too much for Pogge, as Egener smashed the puck into the net after receiving a feed from David Walker, who marked his third assist of the game on the play. Bakersfield was unable to put any points on the board for the remainder of the game, and Ontario went on to claim their first victory of the 2009-10 season with a final score of Reign 8, Condors 2.
