Kings Announce Twitter Plan
Before each of the 65 Kings broadcasts on FS West – all in High Definition -- Kings television color commentator/former Kings forward Jim Fox will be posting special alerts prior to the game as to what fans can expect during their broadcast.
On radio, Kings radio broadcaster/former Kings forward Daryl Evans will be posting news and notes from around the league before each radio broadcast of a Kings game this season. All 82 regular season Kings games are scheduled to be broadcast on the club’s flagship radio station KTLK 1150 AM and along the Kings radio network.

In addition, the club’s communications staff will be providing tweets during the season, including notes from the press box during each game and player/coach quotes after games. The Kings have also created a Twitter account for Royal Service to help answer any ticketing issues that people have and to give them even better customer service. The club’s 2009-10 Twitter plan begins on Opening Night – October 3 against Phoenix at STAPLES Center at 7:30 p.m. For that game, the Kings are asking fans to send to the team their photos via Twitter. A photo gallery will then be displayed on LAKings.com after the game.
This summer, the Kings unveiled their initial Twitter plan for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in Montreal when on June 18 the Kings announced that members of the Hockey Operations Staff and President, Business Operations Luc Robitaille would be twittering from the draft floor. The Kings Twitter account, which on June 17 had 2, 974 followers, gained nearly 500 followers in the week before the draft, including more than 100 followers in the first 24 hours after the announcement.
During the first 48 hours of Kings posts from Montreal, the Kings Twitter account gained 550 followers, breaking 4,000 just 10 days after gaining their 3,000th follower.
In addition, on June 18 the Kings were #11 of tracked NHL twitter accounts on WeFollow.com, while on June 26 the Twitter account was ranked #7 in followers.
Also this summer, during Hockey Fest ’09 in late August, the Kings held a second Tweetup (the first was held during Draft weekend) in conjunction with FS WEST. In addition, Kings Communication Staff members posted quotes from Kings players, coaching staff and alumni that were re-tweeted often during the inaugural three-day event. Also during those three days, the Kings Twitter account gained 200 more followers for a total of 5,674.
In all, the Kings’ Twitter account had a total follower increase of 2,700 in the six weeks between the NHL Draft and the end of Hockey Fest ’09. The Kings’ are currently following by 6,360 Twitter accounts.
Today’s Twitter news featuring the Kings and FS WEST is the latest announcement as the two have recently partnered on various Twitter and Facebook projects.
