Monarchs Announce Schedule
MANCHESTER, NH – The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, will open the 2009-10 season on the road versus the Albany River Rats on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Times Union Center and the Monarchs home opener will be against the Portland Pirates at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday, Oct.17, the AHL and the Monarchs announced on Thursday.
The Monarchs will open their ninth AHL season with a two-week road trip playing five games starting Saturday, Oct. 3 against the River Rats at 7 p.m. before heading to the Norfolk Scope for games on Friday, Oct. 9 and Saturday, Oct.10, both starting at 7:15 p.m., against the Norfolk Admirals. Manchester will finish off their road trip with a 7 p.m. contest at the Giant Center against the reigning Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears on Sunday, Oct. 11 followed by a 7:30 p.m. puck drop with the Springfield Falcons on Friday, Oct. 16 at the MassMutual Center. The home season will open with a 7 p.m. contest against the Pirates at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday, Oct. 17. The Monarchs will also host the Lowell Devils in their traditional New Year’s Eve celebration on Thursday, Dec. 31 at 7 p.m.
The start times for all Monarchs home games Monday through Thursday and on Saturdays for the 2009-10 season will start at 7 p.m. Home games on Fridays will begin at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday games will have a new start time of 3 p.m. this season.
The Monarchs 80-game schedule includes 40 games at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester. The Monarchs will meet all 14 of their Eastern Conference rivals during the 2009-10 season. Manchester will play 62 of the 80-game season against teams in the Atlantic Division, which includes the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Hartford Wolf Pack, Providence Bruins, Worcester Sharks, Lowell, Portland and Springfield. The Monarchs will play Lowell, Portland and Providence 10 times (five home and five road games) and Bridgeport, Hartford, Springfield and Worcester eight times (four home and four road games).
The Monarchs remaining 18 games of the season will be played against teams in the Eastern Conference’s East Division including the Syracuse Crunch for the first time in franchise history. In addition to Syracuse, Albany, Hershey and Norfolk, Manchester will play the Adirondack Phantoms, Binghamton Senators and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the East Division. The Monarchs will play Albany and Norfolk four times (two home and two road games) and Adirondack, Binghamton, Hershey, Syracuse and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton twice (one home and one road game).
