The 2007 Skills Competition continued on Sunday, Jan. 21 as participants from the LA area flexed their muscles against their peers in three competitions (fastest skater, hardest shot, and accuracy shooting) with the hopes of advancing to the semi-finals that will take place at STAPLES Center on March 17, 2007.
"This is my third time entering the competition," Kallie Heaton, who won the Women's 18 and over division, said. "It's a great way to put your skills to the test against other local talent and its also a great self assesment to improve certain aspects of your game."
This was the third of nine competitions at local rinks in a competition which will ultimately award a Grand Prize of a personalized Kings Jersey, two tickets in a suite for a Kings game and a chalk talk with a Kings' Coach, a $50 Gift Certificate to Team LA and a free 2007 Kings Camp Registration for the Youth Divisions.
"This will be my third time to semi finals at STAPLES Center," Heaton said. "I look forward to putting my best effort forward and encourage any and all 18+ women to bring it on."
"It's a lot of fun watching all of the age groups before you. Whether I make it to the finals or not doesn't matter as much as keeping the game part of my life."
Aliso Viejo Ice Palace Winners:
10 & Under: Kyle Penn and Zach Morel
12 & Under: Steve Ochner, Andrew Gabeleand McKenna Farole
14 & Under: Kendall Culbertson
16 & Under: Lonnie Murphy and Cody Gutierrez
Adult Women: Kallie Heaton
The next stop is Toyota Sports Center (El Segundo) on Sunday, Feb. 25, 4:45-6 p.m.
