ROYALS AGREE TO TERMS WITH KEVIN SAURETTE
Saurette (6'0"/190 lbs.) joined the Royals on April 1, 2006, and played the final three regular season games for the team, scoring his first pro goal in the Royals' 2-1 loss to the Trenton Titans in the last game of the regular season. Saurette, who will turn 26 years of age on June 27, also scored the final goal of the year for Reading , when he gave the Royals a 4-3 lead at the 5:45 mark of the second period in Game 4 of the North Division Semi-Final against the Wheeling Nailers.
The Nailers came back to win that game 5-4, eliminating the Royals from the playoffs three games to one. Saurette was a standout at the University of Manitoba where he was selected as the team's Rookie of the Year during his freshman season after leading all first year players in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association in scoring. In his final two years with the Bisons, Saurette was selected as a Second Team Canada West All Star. During his university career, Saurette was twice chosen to receive the Mike Ridley Award which is awarded to a full-time student at the University of Manitoba who best displays the combination of superior athletic ability, good academic standing, and high leadership qualities.
