RIVERMEN SINK MONARCHS IN PEORIA 4-1
Manchester (26-13-1-4, 57 points) is in second place in the Atlantic Division. Peoria (22-16-1-2, 47 points) is in third place in the West Division.
At 17:35 of the first period, left wing Charles Linglet scored his eighth goal of the season. Center Jay McClement sent a pass over to Linglet who shot the puck from the bottom of the left face-off circle. Monarchs goaltender Adam Hauser made the initial save but Linglet picked up his own rebound and threw the puck out front from behind the net. The puck hit off bodies and into the goal to give the Rivermen a 1-0 lead. Center Blake Evans also assisted on Peoria's first goal of the game.
McClement took part in the Rivermen's second goal by sending the puck to the net at 3:16 of the middle frame. Whitfield got his stick on the pass from McClement but Hauser made the save. With bodies falling in front of the net and the puck loose, right wing Mike Glumac was able to poke it over the goal line for his 22nd goal of the season.
Monarchs left wing Jeff Tambellini cut Peoria's lead in half with his 21st goal of the season at 10:25 of the second period. Right wing Lauri Tukonen sent the puck to defenseman Marty Wilford at the left point. Wilford sent a blistering slap shot toward the net that Tambellini redirected past Rivermen goaltender Patrick Lalime to bring the score to 2-1.
Right wing Lee Stempniak scored two third period goals for the Rivermen to round out the scoring at 4-1. His sixth goal of the season came at 4:32 as he sent a one-timer from between the face-off circles past Hauser. Center Troy Riddle and Whitfield assisted on the goal.
Stempniak scored an empty net goal at 18:49 from Whitfield and defenseman Mike Mottau.
Hauser (14-9-2) took the loss with 28 saves. Lalime (5-4-1) earned his fifth victory of the season stopping 24 shots.
Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Peoria was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
